"Nightmare at 20,000 feet" is one of my favorite Twilight Zone episodes. But, I think my favorite movie adaptation of his work was "The Last Man on Earth". It starred Vincent Price. Although its a tough choice between that one and the other two adaptations. Each of them has an essential element of "who is the monster really?" that was well developed in the movie(s).

The Twilight Zone movie did a remake of Nightmare. I liked that movie, despite its tragedies and controversies. I heard in a radio interview, that he didn't care for the Vincent Price rendition and took his name off of it. I totally agree with you with the juxtaposition of who is the monster.

I really didn't like the Vincent Price version either.
Tried to watch it now and its just plain boring and dumb.

Ha! The Kid has been reading and watching Sherlock Holmes stuff recently. She's enjoyed some books and the Cumberbatch version. Grabbed the Robert Downey Jr. movie from the library and didn't like it: "It's awful violent, lots of stuff blowing up."
