code monkey wrote:the Hamiltonian! what an operator!!

A few years ago, at an ISP I worked someone in operations was talking about some stuff in finance saying that they used "Atomic Equations" since the amount of nonsense being thrown around was really taxing my humor I, (putting on my best deadpan mode) said "if they don't use Hamiltonians they ain't atomic". The silence that befell after that, still makes me laugh.

BTW I can barely read the stuff in that link, there was I time I actually understood what it meant.

what is more frightening than finding an old textbook - or worse, notes that you took - from a course in your major and having trouble understanding the material?

Well, if we're talking about almost everything I learned while doing my BSc, yeah, but it's even more frightening if it's stuff I do in IT :)

I don't know if it's better, or worse. Reading some old work, and thinking, hey this guy was pretty good.

good that you still understand it. not good if you think that it's better than your current work.

XOF WAR BUREAU

We just received a communique from our correspondent in Beirut. They are neck-deep in hummus, and conditions are pitaful. "I think if one more Israeli eats one more bite, this could be a critical flash point, taking this corner of the world into a conflagration such as has not been seen since Disco night at Comiskey." US Secretary of State [strike]Clinton[/strike]Kerry has been notified and is on [strike]his[/strike]her way with containment quantities of Kombucha and Kimchi.

XOF DONKEYS

What are the Democrats doing this week, while the Republican circus winds down? Presidential hopeful Hillary Ratched Clinton hosted a backyard barbecue and invited 200 of her richest friends. Server Wendy Auchincloss reported that everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, "especially the big guy with the comb-over! He gave me a tip every time the Republicans said 'Benghazi,' then they'd all roar with laughter."

XOF MAKES NEWS

We at XOF have endowed the Nobel Memorial Prize in Management, just so Sweden is not embarrassed by these petty squabbles. Prize announced at the Carnegie Deli, New York, concurrent with the Nobel Physics Prize, party afterwards. Might get rough.

XOF The Desperate Times

(Due to budgetary constraints, XOF is no longer able to produce quality news articles, so like our country we are forced to borrow from the future. We will continue to run these future works until the time we catch up to ourselves.)

(1 Nov 2016) In a last minute ploy to garner more support for his flailing campaign, Donald Trump has released a sex tape. It depicts a nude and rollicking Donald Trump, gleefully penetrating a spread-eagle and obviously appreciative Hillary Clinton. Trump's campaign said that the implications were yuge. Unfortunately, after the tape's release, Hillary's numbers were up two points.

XOF The Best and Worst Times

(15 Nov 2016) In the wake of the Brexit-like reaction to the American elections, the entire metric world has voted to become one country, leaving Liberia, Myanmar, and, of course, the USA. Even the usually stolid Great Britain joined in the pile-on, typified by the comment from British Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May, "Sorry, bruhs!" The US response was also typical: "As of today, there are more non-metric countries in the world than metric, and the USA leads the way!" Although there are a lot of details yet to be hammered out, it has been generally decided that the name of the new country will be "China."

(31 Nov 2016) In a stunning reversal, the US Supreme Court has decided to not hear arguments in the transgender cases that a Texas lawsuit has said "guidance from the White House would turn schools 'into laboratories for a massive social experiment.' " Justice Breyer's only comment was, "Duh."

XOF End Times

(7 Nov 2016) In an emergency session, both houses of US Congress quickly voted to pass a law moving election day to December 25. "It's Christmas Day, which is a holiday in most states, and it will give people something to do on that day. Plus, that gives us a couple more months to sort out this mess." A woman in the streets of Baltimore MD had this reaction: "Well, that means this election is just going to drag on, which is horrible, but at least neither one of them will have won, so that's a plus."
