Names like Shiela (Australia) and Sigurður (Iceland, I think) have long been used as metonyms but social media has brought pressure to increase the use of common names as shortcuts to memetic conciseness. So, now, if you’re an up and coming med student your name is William, if you have an advanced case of psoriasis your name is Craig, if you have an addiction to Hallmark movies your name is Elaine, if you tend to ride slow in the fast lane your name is Boris (apparently borrowed from the Russian), if you drink single malt scotch your name is Ned (no idea where that came from).
