today's our anniversary. my 4th without him. I miss him and Elliot so much. after one of my surgeries I was having a rough time and ended up taking some of each of the analgesics - ethical pharmaceuticals all - that had been prescribed. and I saw Michael again. he walked into the bedroom, sat down beside me and held my hand. he didn't speak. just looked at me. then he kissed my hand, got up and left. better living through chemistry. no visions of Elliot but I've had flashbacks to events with both of them. I can remember bits of conversations.

the countertops were put in last Thursday. black galaxy granite. once I saw it in the rock gallery I knew that was what I should pick. it reminded me of what the sky looked like at the star parties he liked to go to. full of stars. get away from artificial lights and you'll be amazed.

why yes, I've had a bit to drink tonight. walnut city pinot gris. which is doing a good job of taking the edge off but that's about it. oh, Michael would have laughed. I searched all over for the cork screw - the contents of the kitchen are on and under a folding table in the living room, on the dining room table and various bookcase shelves - only to discover that the bottle did not have a cork!

the typeface has gotten very small. I don't know how I did this or if it's just the ethanol.

ok, everyone who isn't alone, go hug your wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend/kids/whatever and tell these people that you love them. and the rest of you, I know what it's like. and i'm sorry. feel free to call or write.
and still i persist in wondering whether folly must always be our nemesis. edgar pangborn

come gentle night. come loving black browed night
give me my romeo. and when he shall die
take him and cut him out in little stars
and he will make the face of heaven so fine
that all will be in love with night
and pay no worship to the garish sun. william shakespeare

I make a conscious effort to tell those people in my life that I love them frequently. Daily for the Missus and the resident little angry white kid. :P

I have had enough reminders in life that you never know when you will suddenly never have the chance to say it. One of the things I have always insisted on when visiting family or friends was to make the children and myself give a round of hugs before we left. It just felt like the thing to do.

So I was all pissy last night, which extended into this morning after getting up late and fighting traffic to get to work late.
But now I feel like a complete cad. I did however, kiss everyone, including the furry ones before I left this morning. Everyone was sleeping peacefully. Me and my silly anger left alone, and did not disturb anyone.

thanks, guys.

please understand i'm not trying to set myself up as the ultimate sufferer. we've all had our sorrows. we all contend with awful things. as I've said before i'm a scientist. i'm comfortable with things that one can weigh, count or measure. feelings aren't among them. further, I do not believe that only Arlo Guthrie's last guy (google it) is entitled to anger. sorrow, what have you. thumper, you are no cad and everyone knows it. driving in Columbus traffic would try the patience of a saint.

fisher, I don't have the subtext ot 'you never know when it'll be too late' but rather it's just good to say it out loud and even better to hear it. (or is it the other way around?) hugs feel good. I was very impressed with the little angry kid's behavior.

thanks, swift.

CM, I got pissy about alot of things at the end of the day. Silly little things that shouldn't bother me but I get all worked up. Lost weekend, lots of chores crammed into the end of the day when I just wanted to chill. Luckily it was just me, I didn't bother anyone else with it. A little perspective reminder to the back of the head to re-remind me what's important and what is not.

I often tell people that if they would like proof that *God* has a sense of humor all they have to do is look at my life and listen closely. If you really try you can hear a sort of supernatural laughing, interspersed with moments of giggling, usually crescendo with outright guffawing.

Sometimes I swear I hear him say "if you think what I did to him last week was hilarious just wait until you see what I have planned for next week" :P

I believe there is a reason that many cultures have a deity who is often causing mischief and getting humans in trouble. :P

mischief is one thing, spreading misery is another. loki vs the book of job.

their birthdays were at the end of September. now in 2 weeks is the anniversary of Elliot's death. 2.5 weeks after that, Michael's. any wonder why I've come to hate fall?
