elliot had a collection of cards for magic, the gathering. i'd like to pass them along to someone who enjoys the game so if you play it or know somone who does please let me know and i'll send them along. i do realize that this goes back many years and that the game may be seen as a quaint relic now.

According to Wikipedia it's still popular and apparently some cards are even collector's items.

I never played it, but knew a couple of people down here who liked it.

CM, some of those cards might be worth good money. How many cards are there? If it's a good number, I might suggest finding a reputable dealer in your area and asking for an appraisal.

I agree. My eldest and daughter both played for some time - it is well worth your time to take them to a shop that deals with such items, or check on ebay. In fact, if you give me a general idea of what you have I will happily price it out for you. Amazon may be another avenue for selling them. Think of it as a rainy day fund.

thanks, guys. i doubt that they're valuable as they weren't kept in plastic; he played the game with them. i'll look into it. if any are valuable the money will go to one of funds we established in his name.

sigma, no worries. they're on a shelf in his closet. not a good home. a good home would be one in which they're used. (what meds? what are you keeping from us?)

they're still in his room. i only recently was able to go into it and start unpacking his things from the dorm. washed, folded and put the clothes away.

thanks, brite. you'd be surprised, or maybe not, at the number of people who've told me that i have to pass his things along and should have already done so. (usually phrased as 'get rid of'.) aside from some keepsakes and special gifts that we made, it's all there. it's funny that i was able to pass much of michael's clothing along without any difficulty. perhaps because we shared a room.

I bet those people have never lost children, either. I think Mom dealt with Seanie's things when I went into the Army. It took me almost a year to go through Mom's things (other than her papers) after she died.... There is no time line. Grief doesn't have one. It takes however long it takes. For now, you feel strong enough to deal with his magic cards... Next week... You may not feel strong enough to face anything, and that's ok. It's up to you to decide what you are up to. And we are here to support you all the way.

thank you, brite. i can't tell you how much the warmth and support you and the rest of the forum have shown mean to me.

i know that people are not speaking out of malice. there seems to be a belief that the best thing to do is remove all the items that belonged to the deceased. i suspect that the rationale is that there are no more painful reminders. right. as though people don't have memories. as you say, there's time.
