Most people suck. And I hate needing help. But I know some really good people, and getting help when you're sinking into the muck is awesome, even if it wreaks havoc with that whole pride thingy.

Awesome.

*hugs*

And pride is way overrated. (I just wish I could convince my limbic system that's the case!)

The key is gratitude. Last week alone we battled 4 harsh financial situations. One of which, fixing my car door after it got badly scraped, will simply have to wait until I can get an estimate and save the money (love how you pay for insurance only to be told "can you take care of it yourself" WTF). In those moments you remember people who have helped and kept you above water.

You are a gracious person and understand the power of thank you (and meaning it). That's why people are willing to help ;-)

It makes me sad that you have misfortune. It's easy to say "hang in there". I am glad that there were people who restored your faith in humanity.

In Hungarian we say "jo tet helyebe, jot varj." Which means basically wait for good from doing a good deed.

The way I see it, y'all are good people who deserve hope, and glad you have it. :)

there's pride and then there's false pride.

I will point out that by accepting help one enables the helper to engage in good works (perform a mitzvah, earn a jewel in his/her crown in heaven ... put it in whatever ethical/religious form you wish.) thus the act of accepting help may be seen as the ultimate act of grace.

Y'all are awesome. You remind me why I consider FWIS family. *hugs* Also, I love hearing different cultural perspectives and languages that are so unique but show that, on some level, we're all the same.

Mom finishes her radiation treatments this week. Now, all she has to do is finish the Herceptin treatments. Those go on until March. After that, we're free!

That moment - when it looks like things might turn around - and then you can't stop crying... I'm being vague until there is something concrete, but today... today was soooo hopeful.

I held back the tears until vendic went to bed, because he just doesn't deal well with tears, but I find myself watching all the cheesy singing that I love and emailing people with these "awesome" videos, and bawling my eyes out.

I couldn't really cry in the midst of the hard stuff, and I may regret feeling so relieved now... but I can't help myself. If what happened today goes through... whew... we get to give a family an opportunity and my mom won't have to go bankrupt...
--

And i just can't stop crying over the idea that we might be able to help someone else while healping ourselves. Pretty much how I've wanted to conduct my life since I was a child.

Shutting up now. Updates within days. :)

I will give you my best hopes and prayers as such. Although prayer for me often sounds sort of like "Listen God. My friends need a break. That's the only reason I am speaking to you. You better give them one because frankly you sort of owe them some divine intervention after letting that other bastard have so damn much sway down here these days. So give them a break already so I can go back to not talking to you after what happened between you and me in 1995. "

I will work on distracting that other bastard too. :P

Yeah, my hot water heater went out today. Discovered when trying to take a shower and run a load of laundry. Well I guess cold showers help the environment as you use a lot less water! ;)

I'm over the cold shower thing. Once a long long time ago in a country far far away, I had no hot water heater. I was living in a renovation I bought and had no bathroom other than an old tub precariously balanced on two blocks of wood so I could plumb in the drain instead of it leaking on the floor.
Every morning was a case of balancing so the tub wouldn't fall over while showering in water from the rain water tanks that were outside in the cold. The shower head was about chest height so I had to bend down to wash my hair all while not tipping everything over. Kind of like showering on a skateboard. The shit got old real quick. As did the hour and a half drive to work every morning.
You know, thinking back to then, I think I've got it pretty good right now. :)

Hope you get a new water heater soon!
Thanks for all the fish.
