When it rains, it pours

We all need to hear it... here's the place to share it...

When it rains, it pours

Postby Rommie » Tue Nov 05, 2013 9:19 am

Dear all-

Because I don't think I mentioned it on FWIS yet, might I direct you towards the following of my latest and greatest:

- December 2013 issue of Astronomy has a really nice "where are they now?" thing on spacecraft. Minorly nice as I wrote up what happened to about 20 space missions after their primary missions were done, but mainly nice because wow they have awesome graphics guys at Astronomy!

- January 2013 issue of Sky & Telescope has an article called "tuning in to radio Jupiters" I believe is the final title we went for. All about how people are hoping to detect extrasolar planets via radio, complete with an info box explaining how Tesla might've been not-quite-that-insane when he claimed he heard radio signals from Martians (as Jupiter was above the horizon then). It went to the printer last week so guess there's a few weeks left until that one gets printed, but hey I'm mentioning it now before I forget.

Check 'em out!

So there's aliens on Jupiter instead of Mars? :P

Reminds me of a short story by Asimov.

Congrats btw. :D

Oh yeah, so I write for these guys now- Astrobites

Basically they started at Harvard as a bunch of grad students who take new scientific papers and summarize them at an undergraduate level. And they were looking for new writers, and I figured if I was doing all this writing on the side I should do something more scientifically legit- and practice never hurts. :)

Once a month gig (I say gig, but I don't get paid- theoretically a step back except one never gets paid for academic publishing anyway). Will post the first one when it happens.

And thanks, y'all are too nice. :)

Just signed a contract for the next one, on supermassive stars. Guess I should actually start researching that one eh?
