50 years ago, Kathrine Switzer became the first woman to officially enter and complete the Boston Marathon.
Yesterday, at age 70, she ran it again.

I thought about doing the Boston marathon a couple of times, but, I'm not really into watching sports on TV so decided against it. lol

Back when I could run that far, I was never fast enough to make the qualifying time. Now that the time is more relaxed for my age group, I could never run that far. The Kid nearly killed me Sunday with a 6 miler.

When I was younger I did more cycling than running but after doing that for so long I realised I could also run far too. Previously I would get a stitch all the time. Never got into running more than 6km a day though. I did 50km by bike, 6km run and sometimes a 1km swim (in Summer) daily.
Now, I'm just tired thinking about it. lol
It's about 300 yards to the boat ramp and I reckon I could jump off the boat and make it there in about an hour. That's only because it's shallow and I could walk in three/four feet of water.

I hear she entered without fully disclosing that she was a female. Hard to imagine that you would have to hide your gender just so you could try to kill yourself by running 26 miles. :o

There was, of course, no gender box to check on the entrance form. And she used her initials, K. V. Switzer. She said that was not an attempt to mislead, she had been using that moniker in her writing for a while.

I just read that article. That was a good read. I can't get over the asshole that was yelling at her to get out of "his" race. wtf.
Great story.
