my 1.5 yr old wall oven stopped working. the error message - stuck or shorted key. (this is complete with chiming that starts up at odd intervals.) I set up a service call with the local appliance repair shop as I believed the warranty to have expired. came home to a message from them - the repair bill would be $900!! I stopped in at the shop to make sure that was correct. alas, it was. the owner suggested that I call the manufacturer to see if they'd do anything for me as he felt that it was nutty to have to pay so much. after a few days I did and learned that it's still covered and the repair will not cost me anything! so tomorrow afternoon i'll have a working oven and will celebrate by making ratatouille!

Nope, not a stretch. $900 is a lot of coin

I'm curious as to what the repair shop said was required in the way of repairs.

For sure, I think we can all imagine better things to spend it on. Plus it could have easily turned into one of those home repair dramas.

I say take victories when they come myself.

900 bucks is alot of microwave dinners!

I call that a solid "Good News" story. I had a similar thing happen earlier this year with the furnace motor. Unfortunately, while the motor was covered the labor and installation was not. Probably why that didn't make it into the "Good News" column.

the repair was to replace the control unit. it's a jenn air wall oven.

the ratatouille had to wait until Thursday evening as work intruded. I cut many corners in making it but it was fabulous! (and I have the ingredients on hand for another batch.)

Every time I see that word - ratatouille - I can't help but think of a rat. An adorable rat, mind you; one skilled in the culinary arts.

There's actually an amazing Michelin star restaurant in Haarlem called Ratatoille, where my bf and I have gone twice (we started a tradition of a fancy dinner the last night before I leave). Here's a picture of the sign out front.

I saw the film and my skin just crawled! sorry, but my father had a restaurant and rodents or bugs were not encouraged. no matter how good their knif skills were.

i'm up to 5lb wts at aerobics

despite my recent ... disappointment in interpersonal relations, i find myself not at all inclined to dive head-first into cookies, cake, candy ... for consolation. i'm not exercising self-control. the urge just isn't there. this is quite a change and, therefore, unsettling. however, i'll accept it. gratefully.

hba1c from july - 4.6! i pay attention to this (and the glucose) as diabetes is the family disease. i know that to some extent it's considered a disease of aging (which gives me an idea for a stat analysis) and that it's probable that it'll catch up with me eventually. I told my pcp that I wondered if I could get it even lower and she replied that the lowest she'd ever seen was 4.7. no, i told her, you've seen a 4.6!

They say that statistically everyone will become diabetic if they live long enough. I think you are doing a darn good job of deterring that statistic.

yes, as I said a disease of aging. also considered a first-class ticket to a cv event. conflated variables? i'm looking into it. (someone *please* find me a nice guy! this is no way to spend free time.)

thanks. as I also said, the family disease. even the skinny uncles were diabetics. type 2 but still.

and here I am, once again to kill a thread! (well, I do seem to hold the record for that.)

i'm no longer on European hours! for the last few weeks I was matching the hours of the fellow I was working with on what suddenly turned into a hot project. we wanted to maximize our overlap. he's in Belgium with a wife and 4 kids at home and i'm by myself(please, somebody find me a nice guy) so which one of us was better able to shift hours? right. I've never had trouble adjusting to the new time zone when I traveled. however, it's still very light out in the pnw at the time one would want to be sleeping to get up and start work at ~11pm. i am so happy that we wrapped things up and i'm back to east coast hours. even better - I've got this weekend to myself!

Well, at least you aren't on South Pole hours.
