Pisco Sours

Wikipedia is always good for factoids like this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pisco_Sour

I first saw mention of the Pisco Sour in an SF novel, and was amused to discover that it actually existed IRL. It looks like an expensive cross between a margarita and a lemon meringue pie. It's also the national drink of both Peru and Chile, and there's an ongoing dispute about who invented it first.

Welcome to Earth. All the excess weirdness in the universe had to end up somewhere...

More importantly, they're quite tasty.

Fun fact, the bar in the international airport terminal in Santiago is called The Last Pisco Sour. I might've hung out there trying them out during my five hour layover there where I couldn't leave the airport. :drink:
Yes, I have a life. It's quite different from yours.

Chasm City, Alastair Reynolds. The reason it's in the novel is that in that particular SF universe, each planet is colonized by people from a couple of nations or regions, so they bring their culture with them. The planet with the pisco was settled by people from South America and Germany. Just like the people in Chasm City were descended from Quebecois and Chinese colonists.

This is the crap that fills my head...
