Professional Female Running Back

Not a big fan of football, and definitely not a big fan of this

But the 5-foot-2, 130 pound Welter was met by 6-4, 245-pound defensive lineman Cedric Hearvey for a one-yard loss.

Somehow, Welter was unfazed by the hit.

"I said 'Is that all you got?'" Welter asked Hearvey. "I didn't want them to think I was intimidated."

So you'd rather him think you're a moron or crazy? If this guy hit her the way he hits other guys, we would not even be having this conversation. We'd be reading an article about how the first female running back was either dead, paralyzed for life, or in a coma. He obviously held back. Most men wouldn't be able to live with themselves if they crushed a tiny woman.

Maybe this will lead to the sport becoming less violent? That would be a bright side.

My guess, sorry to say, is that she is crazy.

A 5-foot-2, 130 pound man could not play that position, they would get crushed. She won't last once the novelty wears off.

What makes her really crazy is that she is encouraging girls to do the same.
We have weight classes in certain sports for a reason.
We have division between men and women's sports for the same reason.
This is just dangerous PC crap.

I remember I had a (girl)friend who played intramural flag football in college, on a coed team, and she was a waif of a girl back then. What I never got is ok, it's just intramural sports, but she insisted that she was treated just like "one of the guys" and would get tackled with just as much force etc etc. I always told her bluntly that I did not believe that for a second, but could never convince her otherwise.

Rather odd as she's a more than sane woman otherwise, so don't get why she didn't see this.

Why would you get tackled in flag football? I thought the whole point of flag football was no tackling, and in that case, I can see it as a coed sport.

Stupid. But I can see why someone would do it. Same reason some women walk through Central Park at night.

No, I'm not for it. I think it's daft, dangerous, thoughtless, and (in this case) irresponsible. But IMO there is a very real reason for it.

Reality is reality. You can't argue with it, you can't budge it, you can't change it. But that does not automatically mean that it is fair.

That argument makes no sense. Walking through Central Park at night should be safe. And it is possible to properly defend oneself in a place like Central park.

Joining a football team and expecting all the men to change the rules so you can pretend you're as tough as they are is just retarded.

And it makes no sense to me whatsoever. What does fair have to do with it? I'm sure there are some men who wish they could bear children. Well, too fucking bad. We're all different. Quit worrying about what you don't have and celebrate what you do.

I agree (and I must've misspoke earlier about my friend and flag football, for the record- I remember her mentioning being tackled, so yeah it couldn't have been that but I think it was some "easier" form of football). My cousin went jogging in Central Park at night when she lived in NYC cause it's a pretty safe thing to do these days (back in the day it was too dangerous for men and women- these days there are <10 incidents/year, in the non-lit areas), and cycle home in Amsterdam in the wee hours of the morning with no issue. If I didn't know the area I probably wouldn't, but it's quite safe to do so.

Men are actually far more likely to be mugged/ robbed/ victims of violent crime, in large part because society teaches them that it's ok for them to walk home alone at night through bad areas whereas it's just common sense for both men and women to not do so (yes, more women are assaulted, but that's only by strangers 10% of the time). Instead of just shaming women shouldn't we just teach everyone common sense?
