Another Evil Imperialist Coup attempt against our Glorious Patriotic Socialist Idiots has been foiled

Maduro said the plot centered around a plan to commandeer a Super Tucano jet and attack Venezuela's presidential palace this week, or a public demonstration that the Venezuelan President was attending.

Hey CNN: the Embraer Super Tucano is a PROP plane not a jet.

As for Nicky: why use a COIN aircraft to attack the Miraflores? why not one of those pretty Mig-29s Hugokins bought a few years ago? you said it yourself they had to procure one from outside the country, if they have to do that they could at least use better hardware :P

And the Theater of the Absurd goes on, Ionescu is probably chuckling in his grave :scream:

Well, like most modern prop planes, it's a turbo prop. So you could still call it a jet. ;)

And the MG-29 is more of an air superiority fighter, not so much ground attack. However Wiki does say they have been outfitted with various air to surface munitions. So I'll give you that one.

I got it wrong, the russkie jets we bought were SU-30s which are supposedly multirole aircraft. :P

BTW the CNN link that I posted now says "U.S. calls coup claims by Venezuelan President 'ludicrous'"

"These latest accusations, like all previous such accusations, are ludicrous," Psaki said.

"As a matter of long-standing policy, the United States does not support political transitions by non-constitutional means. Political transitions must be democratic, constitutional, peaceful and legal. We've seen many times that the Venezuelan government tries to distract from its own actions by blaming the United States or other members of the international community for events inside Venezuela," Psaki continued.

"These efforts reflect a lack of seriousness on the part of the Venezuelan government to deal with the grave situation it faces," she said.

A long time ago (FWIS1) I said our version of Samuel Johnson's saying "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel." is "Blaming the US for our problems is the last resource of our Latin American idiots". I guess I'm still right :P

Hey Swift, you might find this one funny (no source in English) The president of our central bank says that there's an international smear campaign of lies to discourage foreign investment in Venezuela.

Well, that's true, for various definitions of "smear".

"Hey, didn't you guys build a plant in Venezuela? How's that going?"
"The Venezuela government stole it from us and then proceeded to run it into the ground"
"Hey, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"

A couple of days ago my old man was bitching about how our (Latin American) culture was "a culture of thieves, pirates and swindlers" (including the award winning comment "God did what Hitler couldn't, send all the asses to South America") to which I answered: "and yet: you love it here, I DON'T". His answer was a long riposte of bad the rest of the world and was crowned with his saying that Argentina was just like here, except that most Argentinians pretended to be "snobby intellectuals".

And now I stumble into this:

Searching for a word in Doral

It basically comments on how much the expats in Miami miss home.

I really can't feel sorry for the expats. After all, the dream of a lot of middle class Venezuelans (until very recently at least) was to leave Venezuela and live in Miami. And now they feel so.... "Venezuelan"

I don't consider myself particularly patriotic. As a matter of fact: Flag Waving irritates me.

Nope, no underlying conclusion just generally pissed off at the world today.

Edited for Clarity

“The concept of commodity sharing is simple -– the Government of Trinidad and Tobago will purchase goods identified by the Government of Venezuela from T&T’s manufacturers, such as tissue paper, gasoline, and parts for machinery,” Persad-Bissessar said…

Does Venezuela really lack sufficient capacity to refine gasoline?

Wouldn't be surprised, take a look at this:

Exclusive: Venezuelan refineries operating at 74 percent - internal PDVSA document

This Reuters piece is from 2013. AFAIK we have severe maintenance problems at most of the refineries PDVSA has here.

I presume that the ones that in the US and Europe are in better shape.
