The Weather Thread

It was 85 in the Twin Cities yesterday, and one MN city reached 97! flame:

It was a pleasure to be able to play outside in bare feet, but I'm ready for the winter. I have already decided that I am going to attempt to ride my bike as much as possible. The cold does not deter me and I do not worry about a dark commute if I ride safely. The only issue would be snow-covered streets. I have some ways to avoid the potentially dangerous slippery areas and I will outfit my bike to better handle them. Once I am able to integrate biking into my winter plans, there will be nothing I dislike about it!

It definitely turned to fall this weekend. A nice hard frost Sunday morning.

Still nice around here. Highs in the 70's all week..except for Saturday when I'll be sitting at a night football game where the high will barely have broken 50. Hello Carhartts! This will keep the grass growing. I'll probably have to mow a couple more times. Absolute beautiful sunset last night as we were driving out to a banquet for The Kid.

We finally got some rain in Sacramento. Not much. But almost an inch. More importantly we got 5-10 inches of snow in the higher elevations. It's a start. :D

I noticed that. When I checked the weather map I zoomed out to see what nastiness my wife might be driving in and saw the front slashing right through Sacramento. Good deal.

I think this is it for Indian Summer. It was a great run. Sunny and 70 all week. (In November!?). Raining today. Highs 10 degrees cooler, another 10 cooler tomorrow, another 5 on Sunday. But maybe the grass will stop growing and I won't have to still be mowing on Thanksgiving. I really would like to start winterizing all the lawn equipment.

Governor Brown announced he was continuing the drought restrictions for California. Yes, we have had some rain recently. No, it was not enough to offset 4+ years of drought. My postage stamp yard did green up some this last two weeks. Not sure if we are going to get enough rain this winter to help more. In the "fall is here" headlines we are getting chilly at night. I think we hit the low 40's Fahrenheit at night once or twice. :cheer:

OKay, This might be it. 65 and breezy yesterday. Supposed to storm tonight. Highs barely 50 tomorrow. Chance of snow Saturday.

Ahh, Minnesota. After our first few days sub-freezing, climbing back into the 40's means it is flip-flop weather! At least for the crazy college kids.

Finally acting like "normal" Ohio fall. It's been gloomy mostly for the last 4-5 days, the sun shows up as a glow every once in a while. Temps in the 40's-50's. And on and off rain the last few days. Actually over an inch yesterday. (Great time for the sump pump to go out, but I knew it was coming and I had the spare ready. Glad I got the last mowing done and the mowers winterized. Because there will be no more trodding on the delicate saturated ground. And there's no interest washing and cleaning them in cold damp weather like this. :P

For a change I actually got most of the leaves either raked up or mowed into mulch this year, so I'll have to find some other way to kill off the lawn.

I keep announcing the end of Indian Summer, then we get more 60-70 degree days. Saturday was our traditional Christmas Tree hunting day with friends and relatives. I wore shorts. There have been times where we're huddled around the barrel fire in full coveralls and Carhartts. We dash out into the field, cut the first tree that looks remotely decent, run back to the fire, then head off to a warm restaurant for some good beer. It's been so warm and we've had enough rain, the grass started growing again and people were mowing over the weekend.

Sure makes hanging outside Christmas lights easy though. ;)

It's warm where you are because you probably don't have any solar farms yet.
