You say that like it's a bad thing. :P The problem with you poor down trodden socialist noble victims of capitalism is that you don't appreciate your role in the system. :P ;)

interesting:

these guys are saying that there's no way the Chavistas will get any sort of substantive majority at the National Assembly on the December 6 elections, and at the same time claims that few people in the opposition think they will win, check the comments section on how they speculate Nicky and his gang will manage to get the upper hand even if the lose the elections (I have thought of that myself).

We'll see.

This is more interesting, a former prosecutor in the Leopoldo Lopez case, jumped ship and now claims that the charges were trumped up and politically motivated (gee, what a surprise)

For years, the opposition has accused the government of cheating in the elections, and has always been proven wrong. Because, if they need to do something like that, the government can use other tactics as listed by The Economist.

According to these guys that might not be enough for Nicky & Co to win.

The good news about being a country is that if you default on your bills you can always get the IMF to give you money. You just have to pretend you are going to pay it back some day. :P

Welll, we had our election on December 6.

The opposition won a 'supermajority' at the National Assembly, we'll see what it does with it.

Nicky threw a hissy fit poor thing.

The Sewer Rat is still around unfortunately.

Here's a good summary

maybe Venezuela will have a change of government? Or a slow messy retreat from the abyss of total chaos. :P

Too early to tell,

First of all, I am pretty sure that the current Assembly will enact an enabling law that will allow Nicky to enact laws without the Assembly approving them for at least a year.

Second, the Chavistas have been busy trying to force 13 justices to retire to make sure they keep control of the Supreme Court.

Third, I don't wholly trust the opposition, if they start doing crazy symbolic things or if they try to play the blocking game the US Republicans do, it's going to get messy,

Finally there's the referendum thing, I want it to happen so Nicky goes away, but only if it doesn't mess with the economy. Yeah, Santa asked me about the color I wanted for that Unicorn I asked for as a Christmas gift.

A Shadow Congress From what I understand, in countries with the Westminster system of Government, whomever is in the opposition sets up a "Shadow Cabinet". Somehow I don't think it's the same as this though.

From that we get the wonderful term tramparency, transparent dirty tricks. It has come to this then.
