Yup

Last time they tried to pull this stunt (2010) they had to suspend the rationing because of the public outcry. I suspect that this is the spark needed for full blown riots to start.

Apparently the capital will be spared from the rolling blackouts. Considering that it's one of the major consumers of electricity, this tells me Nicky and Band of Merry Idiots are scared shitless that the City Slums will rise. Rumor has it that some of them are already under military control. But nobody thinks they can be contained. So, this rationing is at best a farce that will piss off people who live elsewhere. IF the dam's water level is really that low (I don't believe it, I think it's just the usual incompetence in maintaining anything, it's one of our most irritating cultural traits). I guess we'll have a major blackout soon. But for now, the rationing will not affect me.

We're broke, we need every stinking U$ dollar we produce from oil to at least import food.

And we're US$ 1 BILLION in arrears because we DON'T RETURN SHIPPING CONTAINERS?

Dude, there's a reason on why Latin America is considered the US' Backyard. EVEN if it had some strategic value for the US, the US has taken so much flak (justified or otherwise) in this region that they'll think it over twice before thinking about thinking about doing anything

We will just send it to a bipartisan committee in Congress to give us recommendations. :P

That's about the same isn't it? "Bipartisan" and "Committee" seem to be two mutually exclusive terms in the current Congress :P

BTW. "Empresas Polar" just shutdown their last brewery they can't get the imported goods they need to make beer.

Just read the article.

I wouldn't trust Arias Cardenas as far as I can throw him: he's switched allegiances twice, AND I think Nicky and his Acolytes got one thing right: the way I read the national mood, there's not going to be any tolerance for any "power sharing" the Chavistas MUST get out, ALL of them. The opposition needed 200,000 signatures to start the referendum process, if we're to believe their figures (and THIS TIME I have little reason to doubt it) , they got almost 2 Million.

As for the Minister of Defense (Padrino Lopez) I suspect he's hedging his bets with the referendum.

We'll see
