I still think that the Military is not backing Nicky the Idiot 100%. But I think that Padrino Lopez must really be crazy to agree with this:

What the Glorious Army of El Libertador is up to these days

Nope, we're not a Banana Republic, we're a pretty bad parody of one.

Hey Fisher, IIRC you worked as a LEO at one point right?

As you might know, Law Enforcement Officers here in Bananaland are less trusted than the Armed Forces. They're seen as incompetent and corrupt and unfortunately there have been many publicized cases of situations like that. Part of the reason for this is that police are not really well paid ( gee what a surprise). Now our National Assembly wants to pass a bill trying to fix that. According to the author of this piece the actual medicine is almost as bad as the disease. Particularly during our current "special" economic situation BTW GJ remember what you said about what intentions and implementation were in this country?, you might find this interesting.

Wow! Yes, indeed, I have worked in law enforcement. There is a lot that is wrong with this proposal. Even the U.S. says that if you work in the most dangerous job in the country the soonest you can retire is after 20 years. :o

On the thread about North Korea, I mentioned that the Chinese Bet on the region was not going well.

Turns out they've officially ran out of patience with Nicky

Edited to add

As you know we're also well known for the level of crime in the country. This is a rather tame example.

The first story hits the mark pretty good. This scenario plays out in every law enforcement community (almost) everywhere. The majority of the officers want to do a good job of serving and protecting the community they live in. There are the small percentage who are just plain corrupt. Another percent who are apathetic. Some who would be good cops if they had the right mentors or training.

The second story is classic. And explains why countries like the U.S. and Venezuela shoot ourselves in the foot so often. :P

Yeah. Law Enforcement is a VERY hard and thankless job, just as hard and thankless as that of regular Armed Forces doing "Counter-Insurgency". I think that our particular case is probably a lot worse. You see, I suspect that LEOs here are paid very badly compared to their counterparts in the US.

So it seems like the Chinese are learning the hard way that dealing with Third World governments is very hard. Can't feel sorry for them though.

OMG. Every time I turn around, Nicolas Maduro is proving he's a bigger idiot.

A peace prize. For Vladimir Putin.

Really.

:scream:

Maybe Maduro sees what Trump is doing, and figures he should up his game...

They have a lot of business dealings in Africa, too. I wonder how that's working out for them?
