i recently found this site and feel that it's worth a look. the recipes are relatively simple and i've been pleased with the couple that i've tried. the language is raw and repetitive (if this is an example of swearing like a sailor i fear for the navy) but easily filtered out.

Real conversations go something like this:
Just get your fucking finger out your fucking arse and cut the fucking shit the fucking way it's meant to be fucking cut and do your fucking job without being a fucking whinny little cunt. For fucks sake!

Or this:

Maybe even this:

These are full time live aboard sailors (cruisers) who have either traveled the world or are planning to. They spend more time on their boats than most professional sailors do because their home is their boat and they don't get leave except at times to restock. For example, in the last four months I have spent about 2 days off the boat and that was recently to get the car, I have no idea when I will again. The military might be similar but they also get to go home, these people don't have one other than the boat. I just wanted to clarify that as they certainly wouldn't be classified as hobbyists and calling them such might invoke sailor renowned words. lol

The part time sailors I have spent time with swear about as much as any person does. Cruisers swear less. That's been my experience anyway.

living on a boat does not qualify one as a sailor. furthermore, I am considering the idea that one must be in the navy or some similar regimented organization to truly qualify. you do understand that this is my own private classification. I am not interested in calling anyone anything. I will, however, point out that your idea of sampling leaves quite a bit to be desired.

Technically anyone that navigates a marine vessel is a sailor.
The term cruiser/live aboard is for those who sail their boat and live on it as well.
The term used for those who live on their boats or never take them out is dock queen.

Its a very strange community.
Some will argue that catamarans aren't sail boats, others that if you don't sail your boat in gale force winds or higher regularly you are a fair weather sailor. Others don't consider you a sailor unless you've got literally tens of thousands of miles and one or two circumnavigations don't count as they are easy. Another segment doesn't consider you a sailor unless you actually, you know, sail a wind powered vessel.

I only gave my experience in what I have seen over the last 20 or so years of boating here and in Australia. Sure it's anecdotal, but it's been pretty consistent.
