Also, that whole story reminds me of some of what I put my husband through, so it's funny on that level as well.

I pointed out that there are literally hundreds of stress relieving devices (usually foam rubber shaped like different objects) that are not a hazard to electronic devices or carpeting. Heck, I've got one from one of our vendors that looks exactly like one of their in pavement road sensors. Exhibitors at every conference or other event I've ever been to give these away by the ton. To have to go through the steps to try to create one, and then have it be dangerous, is beyond ridiculous...

My friends mother told us a story years ago. When she was giving birth to my friend she was in so much pain she needed some stress balls. So she grabbed her husband by the testicles squeezing hard yelling, "You did this to me!".

Before we buy a new one, I thought I'd take it apart and see if I can clean the keypad contacts. So it's got about 3 different types of micro screws and with my vast tool collection, I couldn't get one type out. So I've ordered a micro tool kit off Amazon with the proper screwdrivers and the dis assembly and repair will reconvene tomorrow night.

Can't have too many tools.

New tool kit came in, I put on some good cheaters, scattered the calculator all over the dining room table, and cleaned it all up with Q-tips and isopropyl alcohol. A couple hours later, I put the last screw back in, it powered up and all the buttons worked. The Kid was ecstatic. She came over and gave me a hug (that is monumental). She's using it on her physics test this morning.

Looped the truck on an icey ramp this morning on the way into work and kissed the inside guardrail hard. Apparently I found the only slick spot, everyone else made it through fine. I checked it out in the dark with a flashlight then drove it on into work. There's certainly damage but it drove fine. I was going to call my insurance company this morning to have them add a new (new to me, 2010) car to our policy. I just brought it home last night. So The Kid is driving the Nissan, Mrs. T has the Subaru, so I decided to wreck the truck...

Before I can stop fuming from that, get a call from Mrs. T that the new car is dead in the garage. Perfect. Don't know if it's a battery issue or the starter. Purchased it from a dealership. Paid a premium because it was in such good shape, they had serviced it, replaced all brakes, changed the oil, new balance and alignment, new serp belt. 115 Point Professional inspection. I'll be calling my salesman as soon as I can start forming non 4-letter words. But I bought the car "As Is."

I tend to be more weary when a deal works on a car/bike than if they don't.
I've got more damage on a brand new motorbike by dealership screw ups than anything else.
So I stopped taking it there effectively nulling the warranty (I did it myself). No damage, runs good and it's now 22 years old.

I don't use dealers for maintenance as a rule. Expensive, bad service in too many experiences. I do what I can myself, and I have a couple of guys and independent shops that do everything else. I picked this car because it seemed great. I paid for it but they made it as good a car for its age that I could have found and I didn't have to go through it and replace everything.

Called my salesman, he immediately asked what he could do for me. After conferring with Mrs. T, she's going to see if AAA can come and get it started. She'll run it up to the dealership and they're going to fix it. If it end up being something expensive, like a starter repair, I'm guessing I'll have to pay for some of that, most likely the labor. But they didn't say anything about that yet, just get it here, we'll look at it, and we'll get your wife a loaner to use. For now, that's good to hear.

Now to call my insurance company and deal with all that...

Rant: I re-registered the two cats with new rabies certificates. My county uses a contractor to do their pet registrations and you can do it online. I scanned the two rabies certificates and sent them in with a credit card charge. Should be good to go, right?

No. I get an email response saying that the two licenses are being held up pending additional documentation. What docs? Proof of spay/neuter.

These are re-registrations. If I look at the accounts for each cat, it clearly says they're spayed/neutered (why is there a different word for the two genders?). So, I guess they want proof that we didn't reverse the spaying/neutering.

Also, the rabies vaccination sheets state whether the cat is spayed/neutered but the website doesn't have the functionality for me to state that. And I can't upload the same document as proof of spay/neuter. Why? Because their files already indicate they're spayed/neutered.

For the most part, things have been going okay. I've been working on my tendency to b|tch all the time about everything. The first two hours of the day totally sucked. But things since then have been promising. My loan officer said she could hold the check up from the dealership if that would motivate them to make the car right. I had good conversations with both my salesman and the service manager. So we'll see what they say after they get their hands back on it. I was encouraged by their offer of a loaner. Called my insurance company. She said just get an estimate anywhere, call her back and we'd go over my options. And we went ahead an painlessly added the new (used) car to the policy. I can cancel that in the unlikely event that we end up not buying it which I find highly unlikely.

In the grand scheme of things, minor hassles. I'm having trouble staying calm. But I'm all by myself here at my desk, and I'm trying to treat this like some sort of test.

When you start a day off so monumentally badly, and set the bar that low, things are bound to get better. Service manager called. It was indeed a bad starter. He couldn't source one for our manual transmission vehicle until Tuesday. So he told me to tell Mrs. T to just hang on to the loaner. He'd call me when the car was done. They still owed us some scratch and dent repair so it looks like they'll be able to take care of that while it's waiting for parts. So far, way better than I expected. I think the salesman is tired of talking with me. He's already made all the money off me he's going to. Now I'm just eating into his profits.

The estimate on the truck came out lower than I expected, body shop guy says he can get it back to the way it was. Retail value looked better than I had hoped. So agent put in a claim. I'll still have to wrestle with the adjuster and convince him it's worth fixing but I think I've got a good shot. And luckily it still drives okay. I didn't get into the suspension or the internal organs. It's been a tough truck. That's why it's my baby.

Now to get out of work and salvage the remains of the day.

Men are pigs, redux. We found out a couple weeks ago that the parents of one of the Kid's best friends are getting divorced. They have 4 children, from 19-9. Not sure how much longer than 20 years they've been married. Apparently, the wife finally discovered that the husband had been running around on her. Her first priority was the health and well being of the family. So she gave him a second chance: Stop seeing the girlfriend, remain faithful to her and the family. I'm not sure if counseling was suggested or required.

Apparently, he said no thanks and ran off with the girlfriend. Now before anyone jumps on me that the girlfriend had a role in this too: Obviously. But I'm looking at this only from the husband's prospective. I put myself in his position. Even the most insidious home wrecking inclined woman gets no traction unless the guy gives it to her (Ha, funny). I don't care if you're unhappy. Hell, I don't care if you decide the girlfriend is the love of your life. You don't do that. You shouldn't have been looking for another in the first place. You took a vow. The family is quite well to do. Maybe stupid money gives you time to ponder doing really stupid things. I know I'm pretty one sided on this and there are always other sides to the story. But I didn't care much for the d|ck when I met him over Thanksgiving break.

Well said. Marriages aren't perfect and sometimes they don't work out and should end. But vows were taken, so cheating is out of the question. If you're not happy with your spouse, try to work it out and if that is unsuccessful, get a divorce. Then go off with your new girlfriend/boyfriend.

One of my biggest peeves are cheaters.
Our best customers at the restaurant seemed real happy till we found out a couple of months ago that he cheated on her. They split up, the daughter no longer seems to want anything to do with him etc. This was the guy who came to our aid when our car broke down last year on the freeway. Very disappointed.
