Ice storms maybe?
If you believe the forecasts, it will rain, possibly storm, then snow, while the temps are well above freezing. The ground is certainly warm still. By the time we get near 32, it looks like the precipitation will be pretty much gone.

Hot and humid. I drank a gallon of water today and that wasn't enough.

It did indeed start snowing last night. The back yard, trees, and bushes were covered in a beautiful white; 18 hours before it was 62F. 25F now, down to 15-20 tomorrow morning. Pavement was plenty warm, so snow melted then evaporated. Sidewalks, roads, and driveways all clear this morning.

We sent it your way! Single digits the past two days to start. It's 21 now, on the way to 43.

We appreciate it. It's been cold enough for the last day that the snow is still on the ground. Not for long. Temps heading back up, close to 60's over the weekend.

60's all weekend, heading to 70 by the end of the week. This is depressingly unprecedented. People are already talking about having to mow. At least I was able to get out onto to the yard and pick up branches. I picked up enough to build another house. I burned for 6 hours and created or added to two burn piles. Yippee.

I fully expect this to last long enough for all the trees to bud out and then we get a killer frost and blizzard.

They evacuated Oroville last week because they were afraid a dam was gong to break. Yesterday I-5 flooded. My gutters need cleaning. It needs to dry out enough to mow the lawn. I think I am tired of rain. That is all.

On Sunday I saw red-winged blackbirds at the near-by National Park. That seems crazy early. I haven't even seen a turkey vulture yet.

Getting some wild windy weather here today. Rain starting in an hour. Ironically we are low on water but the weather doesn't permit us easy access to it.

Record warmth today and the past three. Snowstorm starting tomorrow night, we could get up to a foot.

I'm not complaining. I've been riding my bike to work because the roads are clear--yay!

And I love snowstorms, and am looking forward to skiing again!

The only complaint is that this wide variance at this time of year is not normal for Minnesota. It's even been a significant change since I moved here 10 years ago. The snow never used to completely melt in the middle of the winter.

It won't be as prolonged as it was. :P

Weirdly enough we have had a drought for so long that these storms help but not as much as people might think. For one thing, in a lot of areas, the run off winds up essentially going down the "drain" to the ocean. We don't have enough capacity to store the excess we might get in a short period. And it takes a loooooong time to restore the aquifers.

I did an internship at the Orange County Water District, which is responsible for the groundwater in that part of the state. One of the priorities was maintaining and expanding recharge areas to help the aquifers fill up. It was a cool job - learned a lot from the OCWD hydrogeologists.

The foot or more that was forecast all week shifted south and we've gotten 0!
People are griping. Stupid meteorologists. But they just put out forecasts that the public wants, cautiously saying it could shift. Then the media hypes it.

I just feel bad for the meteorologists because that's who the public blames. And it is somewhat personal because my brother in law is one! But I don't think it bothers them as much as it bothers me for them. They scientists. They be like, I gave em the facts. Real'ns, not alt-facts. Now on to the next weather system.
