Yeah, I saw an interview where he talked about that ending. And they all decided to keep it much more peaceful and ambiguous. It must be Bill Paxton dying, but I really have had a huge urge to rewatch Titanic recently. It's been a few years!
Fun fact, did you know Titanic had an awful alternate ending? Which Bill Paxton is in? Best acting performance ever!
