Yeah that, I was joking that she really doesn't have much standing to tease me that my daughter is "already a teenager."

Every time I get reminded that your daughter is a teenager my head does a wtf, then I remember.

Same thing with Rommie, though we've met Rommie quite a few times now that it's no longer a case of thinking she is a teenager. Oddly, I still think of GJ as a teenager even though I have met him when he was older. My brain still hasn't worked it out.
Like wise with my cousins, the baby just turned 30, got married over a year ago and just had a kid. Makes my head want to explode.
Thanks for all the fish.

Kids of friends that I clearly remember swinging around by their feet, now have kids that are too big for me to swing around by their feet. Sigh...

The Kid's school put on a TEDx event last Saturday night. She was on the planning committee, was one of the presenter coaches, and one of the technical directors. The TED company had hired a film crew in for video archiving of the presentations. They were from Ohio State's semi autonomous WOSU, a public broadcasting station. She told me during intermission that she was sitting with the "head WOSU guy" at the control table. She said "he's so cool." She needed a thumb drive from him which contained the opening video intro. She noticed that also on the drive were archived versions of some of our favorite WOSU programs. She said, "They're all on there, he's the main producer and editor of "Columbus Neighborhoods."

She didn't come home that night, she went out and celebrated with the crew then spent the night at a friend's. We met up with her the next day at a superbowl party. She pulled out the guy's business card. She said, "You remember that WOSU guy last night? He gave me his card. We were talking and he asked where I was considering college. He said, 'You're talented and obviously have an interest in this sort of thing. If you do come to OSU, look me up. I have internships at the station that might interest you.'"

My Mother-in-law said to my Mom, "Ohio State's doing everything but kissing that girl's @ss." :P

impossible. I refuse to believe it.

i'd never met anyone who was a great-grandmother until I moved out here and now I know many. but you don't even look convincing as a grandmother.

Ohio State it is. She got acceptances from a couple other schools, and is on a priority wait list at Carnegie. But no one can really match the offer from OSU. Full ride, acceptance into the school of engineering, a slot in the Honors and Scholars program, priority residence choice. The opportunity to graduate from college debt free was certainly a factor (and I'm happy at the possibility that I may now be able to retire before I die) but I think she embraced a variety of opportunities including now the ability to continue in some of her social and extra curricular activities she's involved in here in Columbus. She won't have to go to a strange city and find all the sub-cultures she's interested in.

Also, I think a big part of it is the stress of the decision process is over. She's made it, it's done, now she can get on with the business of finishing and enjoying her high school career.

Congrats, it's a great school! :)

Know some folks over in the astronomy dept if that's of interest at all. Including the guy who runs the planetarium.

I think one of the main reasons she was looking farther away was to get away. I don't think she realized that when she moved onto a campus even if it was only 20 miles away, she would actually be moving "away." I'm not going to be stalking her to class or showing up at her dorm telling her to pick up after herself or turn off unused lights. She's on her own in downtown Columbus, Baltimore, or Portland OR.

I think she's starting to grasp that as well as realizing the life that she has in this town that she doesn't want to get away from will be conveniently here for her and she won't have to try to recreate it in a new local. She has a favorite climbing gym and is involved in a local theatre company. She can continue those relationships.

Yeah, most people the world over stay close to home for university for these very reasons. Plus you can always head home Sunday for dinner and use the laundry machine. ;)
