That's exactly right. How he's going to convince anyone (outside the country of course) that the Supreme Court is NOT in his pocket is the question now

BTW you misspelled his name. I corrected it for you :P

We've had a brain drain since I can remember. Particularly in the Science/Engineering Fields. Our culture does NOT encourage problem solving. So, people with skills are not rewarded for them. Therefore, they leave. Of course, as the economy worsens, personal insecurity grows and the government becomes more autocratic, the "brain drain" increases. In the meantime CNN discovers that the Sun is Big and Hot.

Advanced analysis of the economic situation this morning on NPR, about two-hour long bread lines (lines for bread, limit two baguettes), and bakers are being arrested for holding back flour from bread production. Analysis: price controls make bread production a loss, bakers produce doughnuts, cakes, cookies, and ... pizza, with which they can finance their operation, and make more bread. But, it's illegal.

Since the last Supreme Court decision we've had marches and some riots. The Supreme Court reversed its decision and then barred a leading opposition politician (and currently Governor of our most populous state) from politics for 15 years. Protests and Demonstrations are being repressed by the Police and the National Guard. Hell, yesterday we had one just a block away from the office. Good thing it happened after I left. The Army is again sitting this one out. It's considered that most of the Army Top Brass is involved in the Illegal Drug Trade (among other things), and according to CNN, Russia could en up owning the US Subsidiary of our National Oil Company by the end of 2017 because there's a pretty high possibility that we won't be able make the payments for the loans we have from them. Nice week indeed.

It's not only GM

I guess the bottom is about to fall out.

It's been said that Latin America is the continent of "Magical Realism" (what is Magical Realism, Forrest Gump is a good example). I've also called my country "Surreal" several times Well I ran out of adjectives I'm afraid

Venezuela state oil company gave cash to Trump inauguration back in the days that Trump was going to make sure the US and Russia played "nice" I guess

And then this

Venezuela's latest corporate target is Spain's Telefonica

In interesting development? Trump Administration Opposed To Financial Lifelines for Venezuela

Apparently they are considering sanctions. Just when I thought things couldn't get worse.

Well, the situation has deteriorated here well beyond my wildest dreams.

For those of you who don't know, I've been trying to get out of here since 2007. One of the things that kept me here was that I was taking care of my parents. Any attempt to move out of the country would have to include being able to earn enough to support them from abroad.

Since both of them have died recently. I have very few ties left here. So I'm looking for a way out of here.

Apparently there was an opportunity to emigrate to Canada (as I still have some relatives there, have a degree from a Canadian University, know the language etc.) Unfortunately, without a firm job offer my chances are very slim. I've been trying to get a job up there. But, so far, have had no luck. From what I can see, my age and the fact that I'd have to have a prospective employer sponsor me, offset any skills I might bring to the table.

So, basically if any of you guys can help me find a job up there so I can emigrate I'd very much appreciate it. Things look like they're going to get much worse before they get better.

I really wish I was a job recruiter and could get you set up in a jiff, instead of just hanging out in a small astronomy department. :( But will keep my ears open for you as always.

Are there any countries besides Canada that you would consider emigrating to and perhaps are easier to get in?

Countries that are easier for me to emigrate would be Spain and other Latin American countries

Spain has had huge unemployment problems for the last few years. If I had any family or friends that would help me I'd still give it a shot. However, that is not the case.

In the rest of Latin America, job opportunities for someone my age are quite limited. Down here, people who are my age and are in IT are Managers. Since my experience is mostly as a SysAdmin. It's doubtful someone would hire me as a Manager.

This is a long shot. But, has Venezuela reached a point where you could petition the U.S. Embassy for Asylum?

I have two aunts and four cousins in Canada. According to Canada Immigration, only my aunts could sponsor me. And they'd have to meet income requirements. As both of them live in retirement homes, it's not feasible
