come on, people! we've got to get sigma out of there! apparently he has to find a job in another country first so please, keep your eyes and ears open. if your company maintains an internal listing of openings, review it regularly. enlightened self-interest - many companies give a bonus to an employee who refers someone they end up hiring.

I wouldn't need a bonus to help out a friend. Unfortunately, my (former) company is not remotely in the right business to be helpful.

The Canadian Government just issued a similar warning to its citizens living here

I'm staying at home this weekend. Next week is going to be messy too.

I'd take the job. But I suspect that I won't be able to get a work visa with it. And they'll make you jump through a lot of hoops.

Not that I know of. In any case. we're so far down the rabbit hole, that there's someone saying that MAYBE if Trump sent an Aircraft Carrier near here (without actually invading) it would flip the Military over and make them dump Maduro. Talk about grasping at straws....

Looks like the Chickens came home to roost

We've been out of the IMF since 2007, The Chinese and the Russians will not lend us fresh money, and even this month's Bond Payments seem iffy. And to top it all off, now Nicky just announced he will have his Drug Lord VP (targeted by US sanctions so no US Financial Corporation can deal with him in any way) to head the "renegotiation" of our foreign debt. IF you ask me, unless he and his cronies leave power next week. Most of our foreign assets will be seized and the current situation looks like paradise compared with what will happen if that comes to be.

Edited for Clarity

I cannot fathom what a 2,000 percent inflation rate is doing to people. I know that when we were hitting 15% in 1980 it took me a decade to recover from those interesting financial times.

This year was supposed to reach 600% I have first hand knowledge that the price of at least some goods has gone up 1000% thus far this year

The 2000% estimate was for next year, BEFORE this nice piece of news.

IIRC we just officially hit hyperinflation this month (that means a 50% MONTHLY inflation rate)

Thanks guys.

I just noticed that I never posted what happened After Aug 30. The Government had its damned vote and claimed that 8 million people showed up to vote for the Constituyent Assembly Delegates (no way to determine if it was so, but the guys who for years made and managed the voting machines said they were off by at least a million votes).

On October 15th there were state elections The government claims they got 18 of the 23 states. I find it very hard to believe. The mayor opposition parties already said they're boycotting the December municipal elections After the results of the Oct 15 vote, I am pretty certain that this time they DID cheat on the election. So, for the first time in my adult life I am not voting. And don't plan to do so until elections are supervised by international observers.

I think that by now it's obvious that the Military threw their lot with Maduro. And there little hope of a political solution.

After Fisher's post I realized that geonuc's question was at the personal level. Well, as you know all my attempts to get a job outside the country (which can help me get a visa) have failed. I got a couple of possibilities to get a visa, both are rather iffy. As usual, being born in a Banana Republic and my age work against me.
