That probably means you are almost as old as I am. I can remember my mother collecting them for things she wanted to get. I was at a casino in Vegas about three years ago and they had a slot machine with the Green Stamps theme. I was surprised and then I remembered that the old coots like the slot machines.

Dude, I actually bought stuff from a Catalog Store in Canada (Consumers Distributing) back in the 80s. I remember having a 1979 Radio Shack Catalog boasting that they had over 2000 different types of Vacuum Tubes for sale. :P

Vacuum Tubes.... I actually remember repairing a television once or twice by replacing vacuum tubes. They were the original plug and play. :P

Did you ever take your tubes down to the hardware store and put them on the tester?

I can remember seeing the testers in the store. But, usually, you could tell when the vacuum tube was blown without a tester. It looked a lot like a burnt out light bulb.

Or you felt them when energized. Common failure was the heater. The navy taught me that in electronics tech school in the '70s. Repair time being a priority, we were told to check for cold tubes first. But barring that, there were a few ways the tubes could fail without apparent visual indication. The testers were valuable in that way for home repair but in the navy we often just started swapping them out until the gear started working again. Captains get upset when the radar/radio was down for more than a few minutes and we had plenty of spare tubes.

Yeah, if you already have the repair parts on hand, start plugging them in. My comment about the testers in the hardware store was more for nostalgia.

My old man used to put out a show whenever a vacuum tube based system would fail. He of course would check for cold tubes and after he'd seen which ones were dead, he'd then take out the schematics of the machine, spend 15 minutes looking at them while smoking a cigarette and then point at the place in the schematic and say "Aha! this is where the failure is at".

You can't make shit like this up

The government has blamed shortages of paper and "mafias" inside the registry service, known as Saime, for the delays.

And let's not even talk about trying to have any document legalized so it's valid abroad...

I'm looking at the map that shows over 290 thousand Venezuelans migrated to the US in 2017.

Yup, and I'd say that 99% of them are in Doral, Florida

And it doesn't sound like Maduro has any sense that the optics of this are bad, bad, bad. He is like "It was just a lunch. And the Chef loves us." :o

It would be fun to know the opinion of your Democratic Socialists, since they seem to love the SOB.

Straight from the Horse's Mouth

DSA Calls for Ending Sanctions Against Venezuela

Yup, they're PSFs. As far as I am concerned, they're full of it.

Oh yeah, the Pro Maduro press, is saying that nobody should get their panties in a bunch about Maduro's little culinary excursion because he was invited. They claim he didn't spend any money on it, so it's all good. Amazing how similar Trump supporters and Maduro supporters are.
