I learned how to do this
decades ago. From the movie
The Gumball Rally I picked up on a point of city streets with cycled lights. When I started driving a school bus, I quickly caught on to the trick. To this day, going through downtown Dayton, I pick the street where I'm running WITH the light cycle (street varies depending if I'm going N-E-W-S). About 25 mph +/- does it quite nicely. Low 3rd gear, maybe drop to 2nd once in a while, and never have to touch the brake. Absolutely amazed my boss who was riding along with me in the bus one day...smooth as silk from the 3rd St bridge to Springfield St -- the entirety of "downtown" nonstop at 22 - 25 mph.
Also works great in very heavy traffic on the freeway. The people behind you seem to get pissed that you're moving slowly until it dawns on them that you're always moving...
Damn straight the kid knows a trick or three...
