RIP Jack Vance

Oddly enough I was reading The Dying Earth a couple weeks ago. It was very pulpy and rather dated, but Vance was not afraid to pose interesting and disturbing questions; nor to write flawed, morally gray characters. I think one can still see his influence in current wave SF, especially the works of authors like Jeff Vandermeer.

And I just reread the whole Chai series! The Dragon Riders was the first sf book I ever ad at age 12, got me hooked on it. Vance and Van Vogt are both still my favourite 'when I was young' sf writers.

Can't believe I missed this.

Vance is my favorite SF author.
