Referring to your fb post, there's no problem with "Atlanta Falcons." Just consider "Atlanta" part of the species name. So the male Atlanta Falcons are terciels.

If you shorten it to Falcons, that's when it becomes a problem.

Ugh. It's 2:10 and i haven't had lunch yet because of a phone call with a guy who really likes to talk. I didn't bring my lunch today and was planning to go out and get some. Now I just don't want to go. Not because it's cold. I'm just lazy. And I'm not sure what I want. That makes it hard to get motivated.

Ooh--I just remembered, there is a Potbelly's nearby. I'm going to get their pizza sub! Yay!

Kinda a weird past couple days. Basically the boss wanted a writeup of work that I couldn't do in the last few days last week as it was PhD recruitment so I went to town on it during the weekend... well had a hard time getting much into it Saturday, worked a lot more on it Sunday, but didn't go to bed until 5am due to working on it. Basically it's because it's crap right now due to a myriad of reasons (OMG LaTex and matplotlib are the devil), which in turn makes me frustrated, so it took me that long to not admit defeat.

Woke up around noon, saw the boss's response essentially was "get some good sleep in, and try again, and we'll go over it in a few days when you've figured things out." So I didn't go straight back into working on why stuff wasn't working well and instead did for a few hours what I probably should have been doing this past weekend, cleaning my apartment a bit. Basically I've noticed when I have something like a draft deadline I am not very nice to myself- feel guilty all the time for not working on it, to the point where I neglect basic stuff like cleaning up the joint, so then I'm not done and have a messy apartment (or whatever else, you get the idea). Pretty good way to make yourself very, very tired- I've noticed lately I don't want to do much except lie in bed and not do anything (seriously, if you offered me a ticket to backpack South America I'd likely turn it down in favor of my bed)- hell I go to bed late because I don't want to sleep, and then will just lie there when I wake up instead of popping out to go do stuff- and that's not okay.

Evening starting now, will try debugging now for a few hours with an alarm set for 11pm to try and get on a normal cycle. If I can't get this stuff working well then I just can't, and I'll move on to something else, but not worth the sacrifice of health and sanity.

I'm sorry, but you seem to be missing an essential here: sacrificing your health and sanity are key parts of any graduate program.

1. In the last 6 months I have been notified that the active duty army will no longer require my services as a Kelly Girl of the army. In short, my active duty days are numbered and will end on May 7th 2014. I will continue for the next few years as a normal reservist drilling one week-end a month and performing short stints of active duty for two weeks at a time.
2. I have been offered full time employment by the Veteran's Administration near Sacramento CA for a salary that is almost what I am making now on active duty. I will be doing work very similar to what I have been doing for the last several years except I will be doing it for veterans instead of currently serving soldiers.
3. My favorite PLC (Brite) has decided to pursue a Poly Sci degree with the idea that helping shape public policy may save the country. I am still trying to explain to her that it needs saving from the PLC's and the Mad Hatter Tea Party. She agrees with half of that assessment.
4. In November of last year we began raising our 3 year old grandson after receiving temporary custody. This spring we plan to pursue permanent guardianship as it doesn't look like either of his parents will be involved in his life anytime in the foreseeable future. Suddenly we are parents again and I now remember why I missed the 1980's. Hopefully, I won't be so hazy about this next decade.

So, it looks like we will be remaining in the Sacramento CA area for the foreseeable future. Anyone heading this way who needs a place to bunk for a week-end is always welcome to stop by.

So... add to my 14 unit school schedule, time spent with the Poe and Fisher, and raising the dogs, I will be house hunting (as soon as I have a budget). There are a few other things in there... like Poe's pre-school stuff (he has a love/hate relationship with school... some mornings he doesn't want to go to school, then when you go to pick him up, he doesn't want to come home... Is this normal??) and some other stuff that I'm not ready to talk about yet... And Cookie's baby coming July/August time frame.... OMG! I have to save money to be in Florida for Cookie's baby!

One of the interesting things I've noticed btw when moving abroad is how families from different cultures gear up when babies come. There's a certain segment where the mom fights through thick and thin to be there when their grandbaby is born, and people who fundamentally don't get that, and the latter always seems horrified at the former.

I was there when Fisher's daughter had her last (and I DO mean LAST) baby (she was the fount of grandchildren). We took care of her son, while she recovered. And got to spoil the baby outrageously... it is, after all, a grandparent's prerogative. And we tend to do that with all the grandkids.

Cookie and her young man have a 5 year old (from his previous marriage) and he is... marvelous. He'll be a wonderful big brother. He has put in his "order"... he wants a sister. (Cookie's young man shares custody, so Cookie has been a step mom for the last 3 years... good practice) Of course... the next person to touch Cookie's belly will probably get decked. She's barely 4 months and looks almost ready to pop... LOL This is what happens when you have the metabolism of a "hummingbird on crack" and get pregnant...

The Poe thinks that Fisher walks on water. The wet kind, not the frozen kind. Grandpa can do no wrong. I am grossly outnumbered here. Only Grandpa can give baths, pick us up from school, take us to school, take us to the doctor, etc... Grandma can only do these things if Grandpa is not at home. And he frets when Grandpa is not at home. And a lot of this has to do with abandonment issues. Poor little man. We will get him over this hump. He's a good little guy. Very happy, for the most part.

No particular reason other than sometimes I used to find myself doing something and would pm him just let him know what crazy shit I'm up to. He'd make some smart assed comment that would just crack me up. Usually after I looked up a word or two in the dictionary.
This was one of those days when I remembered I can't pm him after the fact.
