been thinking it might be a good idea for various people to take turns pinging those MIA (have volunteers for 1-3 months of duty). They can report back with results or non results (let's hope for the former). Just an idea.

I am not here much ... and do not know how long it will be before Dragon man is more active again. I do not, however, want to see his original efforts or Brite's reconstruction to go by the wayside. We are still a community (albeit a bit fractured at times).

what do you all think?

I'm back kinda. Been having issues with my machine at home, so I'm mostly limited to computers at the library, which have time constraints. Hopefully, I'll have issues settled in the near future.

Anyone heard from code monkey recently? We usually keep an active email exchange going, and I know she said she may not have reliable intertubes
access where she was going out of town, but I haven't heard from her in awhile.

Just curious, but starting to get concerned...

I'm glad he's ok, just hope whatever "life" interference is, it goes away soon.

I'm back again, sort of.

We got back from vacation last Saturday and then Monday I was off to the UK for a business trip. Just got back from that; I've been up about 22 hours (flight delayed out of Newark). I'm actually trying to stay up till close to normal bed time, to try to get back in sync. Between jet lag and just the disruption to my normal routine, I'm barely aware of what plane of existence I'm in (plus I'm fighting a cold).

Rumors I don't "lub" you guys any more are somewhat premature. ;)

I've been haunting Facebook more of late, but not necessarily out preference. Part speed, part habit, part....something.

As code monkey noted, my wife is still quite ill.

Here's the quick data-dump: Wife has been in and out of the hospital all year. I'm pretty sure I posted about that a while back. She ended up with a 10-day stay in April. That lead to laparoscopic surgery for her hiatal hernia and to treat her reflux disease. While that was successful, her other problem remain untamed. She has been sinking health-wise for a while now. She isn't quite bed-ridden, but close. We're back on the specialist "merry-go-round"...when she's strong enough to get out of the house. I'm pretty much acting as her care provider.

I've been on part-time since the first week of April, thanks to the completely messed-up federal budget, caprice on the part of DARPA, and other peculiarities with defense contracting. The loss of income is starting to hurt. Unfortunately, nothing else around here pays even close to what I'm making, so I have to gut this out until I get back to full-time. Hachiman willing, that'll happen in August. Worst case, when the FY15 money gets distributed...sometime around 1 January. Not sure what I'll have to do if that happens. Filing bankruptcy would run the risk of me losing my clearance; which would render me useless in the defense industry...at least locally.

No Pennsic this year, I have to put what time and funds I do have into home repair. Plus the cottage got wrecked back at the end of March. Someone successfully rammed it while it was sitting in my front yard (no small feat given the ditch on my property by the road could stop a small, armored vehicle).

The only bright spots are the Honored Son was inducted into the National Honor Society and made Dean's List both semesters. He has one more year of community college, and then the much-hoped for transfer to University of Houston for their Doctor of Pharmacy program. (I've probably already said this.) For myself, I train aikijutsu as I can make the time (with some Brazilian Jiu-jutsu thrown in occasionally), and I'm helping start a small, single-program, four-year college.

I'll start showing up more often. Scout's honor.
