An urban legend in the making...

Recent developments in an apparent mugging/shooting have been followed with interest around here...

The bus driver stopped early in the morning to check on a possible malfunction...he was supposedly mugged and shot, only his small Bible tract in his shirt pocket saved him...
Well...not is all as it was supposed to be...
It all happened out of the range of the cameras on the bus, but not out of audio range -- there were 'voices', and three shots.
The union contract specified a monetary payout of up to $100,000 for an assault of this kind happening on the job.

A 1" thick paper bound religious tract is NOT going to stop two bullets.
Ballistics tests showed that the tract didn't even slow a bullet down -- it still penetrated about 9" of ballistic gelatin. This test
was shown on the evening news. The only way the tract would stop the bullets is if the tract was laying on concrete...which testing showed it was.

Tests were run out the hoohaw of the entire story.
The whole thing had been faked.
The guy hadn't gotten any settlement money yet, because the item hadn't been resolved...
That is, it hadn't been resolved until about 1 PM this afternoon, when he was fired.

And oh yeah, to make it convincing, he'd shot himself iin the leg...so his only souvenir is a scar.

I know this will enter The Hall of Urban Legends, that a Bible tract will stop bullets...you just wait and see...
