BMR Lite

Had a crappy day? Think your only friend is the dog? Got fired? Someone piss in your Wheaties? Just need to blow off some steam and rant? Here's the place to do it. No judgement, maybe some sympathy, possibly some advice... but definitely a safe place to go off on the world.

Do professors get together and PLAN to have exams on the same day? Do they have any freaking idea how hard it is to study for an anthropology exam AND a Western Civ exam at the same time? At least I didn't give my anthro instructor an essay on the globalization of the 16th and 17th centuries....

I understand the traditions, but I don't believe in them. And I don't believe in luck.

The first time we went over there on Tuesday (we've been back and forth all week) she spent time cleaning the spotlessly clean kitchen and brought over some olive oil we got in Paris last year "for luck". Whatever makes her happy.

From answers.com:
As a gift to new home owners, I traditionally bring:
bread - so the people in the home never want for physical sustenance;
salt - to ensure prosperity for the household;
a bottle of wine - that the household may celebrate the "good times";
a piece of coal - an old symbol that ensures the home will be warm;
and a small living plant - so the household will grow and thrive.

Actually one of the first things we brought over was a box full of booze; one of the things the movers told us they won't move are open liquor bottles.

A better way in ensure that house stays warm... figuring out the darn thermostat. I asked the old owner today if it was programmable or not and what the model number is, because my guess from the exterior of it doesn't seem correct, and she didn't have a clue. It was something her husband dealt with. :roll:

So, quick gripe about this:

Some people wrote:You Can't Ignore Reality (TM)

as in "Men are men and women are women, blah blah blah insert stereotypes here, You Can't Ignore Reality."

I know we've been over this, I'm at best a faux wannabe pseudofeminist with chauvinistic tendencies, yada yada. But... no. Just no way. You can't just go and define stereotyped behavior as Reality just because most people happen to act that way. Statistics are statistics, not invariant laws.

Anyone can acknowledge there's a huge difference between George W. Bush and Al Gore (for example), or Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin. Different people, different personalities. So, maybe most women have personalities more along X lines, and men more along Y lines, and that's okay, but seriously, don't tell me that this is Reality and everyone fits neatly into little archetype boxes. That's not Reality, that's a simplistic fantasy.

Sorry, but you're wrong.

Lots of people ignore reality and do it on a daily basis. ;)

Reality is for people who can't handle drugs.

I thought it was for the people who couldn't handle science fiction?

Or, as Robin Williams used to say "Reality, what a concept".

Want to download the Strawberry Perl portable distribution for Windows, so that I can script some stuff.

Blindly type in 'www.strawberryperl.org' in the browser, because I'm pretty sure that's the correct address...

Hit enter and get immediately redirected to a foot fetish porn site. The correct address was '.com'.

I am with Geonuc on this. Sometimes you just need good shit to happen. And sometimes you have to look for good shit. Like having a loving mother. Even if she does make you crazy. Or knowing that you have friends. Even if they do piss you off. But, best of all..... you have an Australian Redneck. I mean really? How many people can say that? ;)

sfc, you and z are 2 of the most amazing people that i've ever encountered and, as a team, you're at the top of the list. 1 thing at a time and the first thing is to get over the virus. then you'll analyze the situation, make plans and act on them. and know that you have a sympathetic audience here.

You, and everyone else here, were absolutely right. I'm feeling a lot better and a lot more hopeful. It's still an uphill battle, but I'm ready to fight instead of just lie down and give up, so that's something. :mrgreen:

The last several days I've been in a foul mood, just kind of sad and mopey and I don't know what. I'm not sure why.

I thought typing this might make me feel better...
