But really, Led Zeppelin is the greatest band of all time. I'll let you off lightly because you said Rush (who are also awesome) is the world's greatest band, and I'll take that to be limited to active bands.
If you meant greatest of all time ...
Back in the day Roth irritated me too. Whether or not he was just playing the part was moot. It's why I was so happy when Hagar joined the fray and VH went to super duper stardom, and Roth ended up a lounge act. Now that I can look back, and listen with a little more maturity and balance, those first 6 albums were still fantastic. And I can sing every word and air guitar every riff.Sigma_Orionis wrote:I never liked Van Halen much, They did have some good songs but Roth's antics always irritated me. As far as Rock Guitar stuff goes I tend to favor Steve Morse. And the world's greatest Band was ELP, even with Keith Emerson's antics

We shall not spar over Led Zeppelin. Their influence on music is unmeasurable. I put the smilie on my Rush comment because many here know my zealous affinity to that band. I used them as an example of the compartmentalized time capsule that individual album releases could become.
Mrs. T and I are HUGE Zeppelin fans. There are bands out there that may claim they don't like Zeppelin, yet they directly or indirectly were influenced by them.

You'll be happy to know that MrPi is introducing Buster and Rooster to Zeppelin. They ask him to play "the viking song."

We've seen Plant 4 times in various incarnations. Still making good music. To have actually seen Zeppelin live....the day I was ready to mail in my ticket application to see their show in Cleveland, that was the day I heard on the radio about Bonham.geonuc wrote:Thumper wrote:geonuc wrote:I'm with you on that, or most of it. I'm just kidding, of course.
I wish I had seen some of these bands when I was younger and they were in their hey-day.
Thumper wrote:Saw ELP on Palladia last year at some giant UK music fest. They were hilarious, Carl Palmer whipping off his shirt during his solo, what is he 65. And Emerson stabbing his keyboard with a knife then kicking it over a la early Who. Brilliant! They were quite progressive an innovative for their time. Brain Salad Surgery is one of Mrs. T's favorite albums.
"Still.......You turn me on."
