NASA astronaut Ed White made the first US spacewalk 50 years ago and it profoundly changed manned spaceflight. Now EVA's are commonplace and a necessary part of the program. EVA's basically saved Skylab. Back then, they were practiced as a backup plan in case of failed dockings during the Apollo Lunar missions. Thanks Ed. We will always wonder what else you might have been capable of. However, even in death, you may have saved the Lunar program. A new philosophy of safety came as a result of the Apollo 1 tragedy. It brought people together and got them refocused.
Look for the Helpers. You will always find people who are helping.
