Things that over time I realize are always true:
If you have more than one vehicle, or are responsible for for some rolling stock: You'll have at least one tire going down at any given time. Just accept that.

And the scheduled maintenance will always have to be done at the most inconvenient time. :P

I had a flight delay once because a tire needed to be replaced.

Policy is to only replace them in pairs, even if only one is a problem.

The airport only had one tire on hand so they had to fly a new set in....

It turned out well for me, though. I believe I was coming home from MD with Buster. We had to get off the plane to wait, and the pilot was in the gate area. I got to talking to him when I was weighing my options--do I wait for this plane to be fixed or book another flight (leaving in about an hour) on a different airline. The pilot was frank--book on the other airline! I got home faster than anyone else on that flight!

Great, airline policy is to ALWAYS replace tires 2 at a time. "Hey Bubba, how many them thar tires we got back there?" "Uhh, let's see. One!" "Okay, we're good until the next blowout."

A few hours after I made the OP, I got to thinking, "How many tires do I actually have, in case someone asks?" So I started counting on my way to the cafeteria. 4, 8, 12, 16, 20...I thought that was about it, then I thought a bit harder. Then I got to 36. Then I remembered the bikes. It's somewhere close to 50, unless you don't count the bikes we no longer intend to ride. That's too many tires.

Well apparently this thread mocked the Pneumatic Gods. I was adding a bit of air to the tires of my daily driver. When I disconnected the air hose from the compressor, the valve on the compressor stuck open, so all the air was wooshing out of the tank. I couldn't get it to seat, so I let all the air out of it. I'll squirt some blaster and maybe some pneumatic oil in there tonight and see if I can work it loose, otherwise I'll have to replace the connector. Do not mess with the Pneumatic Gods. :P

For all that are on the edge of their seats waiting to see how the situation was resolved:
I oiled up the connector, installed and uninstalled the hose several times, but the valve was still stuck open when I fired up the compressor. So I left the hose attached and let the compressor build to full pressure. Then I disconnected and the valve shut. What a great story.

"Found" 3 more that I wasn't thinking about. Plus you can add a quick 16 if you count "tires currently on my property that don't actually belong to me but I keep aired up when the owners want to come use them." I think that puts us in the mid 60's.
(All these tires and I still don't have a drive into work.)
