Eclipse and Super Moon

Apologies to those who may not reside in a viewing area. Last total lunar eclipse of the year happens Sunday night. (Check local listings) I wish clear skies for anyone who tries to watch.

Yeah, I'm guessing that if it isn't raining, it will be snowing.

Planning to move to California??

Well, why should you guys have all the fun and all the news?

Early is relative. You could consider it "really really late."

Throughout the day it got cloudier and cloudier. By dark when the moon should have been rising, we were socked in. I woke up around 1:30am and noticed some moon glow outside. I went out and caught brief glimpses as it danced in an out of the clouds. It was almost over, there was a bit more then half the moon emerging from the Earth's shadow. So I can at least claim to have witnessed the supermoon eclipse to some degree. But weather does like to mess with our astronomical events around here. Oh well, there's always 2033.

Perfectly clear through the eclipse!
I brought Buster out. I showed him when it was quarter-looking to prove that it is changing in a short time period. I then brought him out a few minutes before totality.
It was pretty fantastic, but I do want to take the opportunity to be picky.
--It didn't turn super blood orange.
--Even though it was total, it was far enough from the center of the umbra that a bit around the lower perimeter remained brighter than the rest.

What I just love, though, is the range in color for such a short time. Bright white to half white/half black, to flat out orange.

Yup, saw it last night, pretty cool.

We went out at about 9:20 and could make out glimpses of the moon with a piece missing through the clouds. When we went back out at 10:20, the eclipse may have been total, but so were the clouds - not even a glow in the sky, and light rain falling. I headed to bed....

The weather has been continually rainy the past week, so I admit I didn't even attempt to see the moon that night.

Had my telescope set-up for the first time in ages. Needless to say, clouds rolled in just as the eclipse was getting under way.
