Yes, I saw her announcement on Facebook.

She kinda posts all around the place these days in haphazard order. Glad you like it. :) Sorry I didn't post my profile here as one of my social media contacts. :P

Congrats, I'm sure I speak for everyone at FWIS that we're proud of what you've done.

Thanks!

So by the way, I spent some time obsessing today over the discovery that NASA is releasing a call for its next astronaut class, open Dec but not due to Feb, and even if you make it you don't start to 2017. Because huh, turns out I qualify. So why not apply? I guess I'll see what the application entails when it comes out, because while no one plans on it as a career move (I think) it is fun to think about.

It's pretty funny btw, my brother and sister's immediate reaction is one of "you're not fit enough!" Because even though I meet the physical requirements, and can hike or cycle all day without complaint, they will always think of me as their wimpy little sister. :)

Go for it Rommie. Few have the opportunity so if you're in a group that qualifies, you should take it.
You'll get to see all the places you visited from high above.
Then you can contact that site about all the places you've been at and ask them to add SPACE!

Don't listen to these people Rommie. They just want to say they personally know an astronaut. :P

Do not not apply! The first application may just be the first application, but it could be the last too. I hope I'm making myself clear.

Thanks guys! Though FYI there's a long standing joke in astronomy that there are some folks who always apply every time the astronaut call goes out... just in case. I'm in good company there. :)

Also, true story. I'm at a meeting right now in New Mexico, and last night at the reception some astronomers from Caltech asked me "are you Andromeda321 from Reddit? I've been looking forward to meeting you for weeks!"

#thathappened

Pity you guys weren't there, you could have said you know me from my BABB days like true hipsters. :geek:

Speaking of the topic at hand, I wrote a thing! Go read the thing!

No really, stuck at home most of this past week due to a sprained ankle in a bike accident (other guy's fault). But my editor at Discover just happened to write me and ask if I'd want to do a piece on this for their website, so it ended up being a profitable weekend on the sofa. :)

Very cool. If you make the first cut I'll hook you up with my astronaut friend for some tips.

I didn't quite understand this quote. "Members from this class will participate in an unprecedented transition at NASA as one of the approximately four American astronauts who visit the International Space Station (ISS)."
Do you mean four per year?

I did. That was the editor's goof-up not mine, as it originally said per year (as that's how many went last year).

Now write an E-book about how to make money while sitting on your couch. Market it to the masses and you will make millions! :P

If I do that much work I'm doing a legit book, not an ebook. Science books require way too much expertise to do and sell for a dollar to a few hundred people.

There may be plans afoot there, but nothing to publicly share yet. :)
