OK, this has got to stop.

Glenn Frey, a founding member of the rock band the Eagles, has died at 67, a publicist for the band has confirmed.

"Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia," reads a post on the band's official website.

My wife and I saw The Eagles in concert in 2009, one of my favorite concerts ever.

Bummer. I like the Eagles' music and Glenn Frey obviously was a huge part of that.

Arthritis and colitis? I can see succumbing to pneumonia but that's usually brought on by something else, isn't it?

I agree, this has got to stop. These are my people. I was stunned when my buddy texted me. Same guy that told me about Bowie. I'm going to stop reading his texts. :(

As they say, now it's personal.

On top of everything else, I too have UC. But it mostly sucks because I was hoping to see the Eagles again in concert.

Yes... I realize that was a reference to a song by Kansas. But it seems somehow apropos.

They had postponed the Eagles being honored at a Kennedy Center event so he could recoup. :(

Their harmonies and licks are a part of my soul. We got to see them once, when they first got back together.

I can never see or hear any reference to that song, ever again, that won't make me think of Supernatural. :D

While waiting to pick up The Kid Friday night, I was gassing up the truck and getting her some snacks at Speedway and heard this rebroadcast interview from the Tavis Smiley Show.

I had a colonoscopy Monday, and while I was in the examination room getting set-up, the anesthesia nurse put on some music; she said it was Eagles day in honor of Glenn Fry.

Actually it wasn't (a pain in the rear). The prep is always the worse part, and the new prep I had this time was the least horrible I ever had. My GI said that everything looked good.

So instead, I have a cold at the moment.

I'll be doing the "prep" for this sometime in the next few months.
Maybe I should listen to some Eagles while I'm doing it...

Thumper,

If the doctor gives you a choice, I would recommend Prepopik as the prep. It is by far the least horrible prep I've ever had, both in taste and in results. The only downsides were it was a little more expensive, and I had to get up at 3 a.m. to take the second dose.

hmmmm.... maybe military medicine has caught up with the modern world. My last colonoscopy required something similar. Much smaller dosage of liquid to drink and they wanted me to get up at 0300 to finish the prep. Apparently no one told the Air Force GI doc I was a nurse and that I would probably do it my way no matter what the destructions said. roll:

My prep of late (every three years)
A gallon of Gatorade mixed with a bottle of Mirilax: drink it every 15 minutes until it's gone. Not too bad going down.

Waking up at 4am to drink a whole bottle of magnesium sulfate: awful. Thick, syrupy lemon lime. But at least it is one and done. However, I

I'm glad you're doing well, swift. My checkup was good, too. It better be, giving that I'm taking over $4,000 worth of medicine each month to treat my disease!

Yes and no. Glenn Frey did die of ulcerative colitis, so it is kind of appropriate.

But yeah... it is rather weird.

Saw The Eagles in '96 on their "Hell Freezes Over" tour. Liked the fact they did hits of the band plus solo stuff put out by members. Needless to say, I link a number of them with Buffett. He opened for them, IIRC, in the 70's on one of their tours. A couple of them have co-written songs with him and Timothy B. Schmidt was a "Coral Reefer" for a bit in the 80's.

From his solo stuff, one of my fave songs of his is "Part of Me, Part of You", IIRC, it was used in "Thelma and Louise".
