Actually, the way I was taught, you were correct in your usage of 'next'. The August coming up in a few months is properly referred to as 'this August'. 'Next August' occurs the following year.

That's the way I refer to things: Last, This, and Next. Not everyone does, though.

I wasn't correcting, just clarifying. I knew what was meant obviously, I don't want anyone to miss it. Or put a deposit down for this August.

But I looked around, and it seems clear that the application is not cut and dry. There are certain constructions in English that are just asking for trouble, like saying "fuck off" when approached by a constable.

We stayed at the same condo place on Siesta key that we usually do. But up until this year, we stayed in one of the stand alone villas that sat behind a 3 story apartment style building. Though the walk to the beach was only 30 seconds or so, we had no view. This time we had a 3rd floor, two bedroom apartment, with a balcony porch and views of the beach. We closed all the blinds at dark (you're not supposed to have any lights showing on the beach as it could disturb the sea turtles coming in to lay eggs.) In the morning, at dawn, I'd get up and raise the blinds. Saturday and Sunday morning the near full moon hung over the beach and the gulf. Pictures could not do the site justice. That and a chance to see dolphins anytime I wanted....

Just an absolutely gorgeous full moon hanging over the city this morning. So I guess this marks a full month since I looked out over the beach at the full moon down in Florida. Sigh.

I've been to Florida. The views are nice. How do you tolerate the humidity?

The humidity can be brutal down there. I can tolerate it okay usually. It can get fairly humid around here, and I turn into a slimy sweaty mess working outside on the weekends. On the beach I can always cool off in the water, which I usually do. I'm not very good at just sitting in a chair and baking in the sun. I get bored and I get burnt. So I spend a good bunch of the time on the beach completely submerged.

Beaver Moon, Super Moon, Full Moon.
Whatever you want to call it. Big and beautiful last night and this morning. We walked out just after moon rise last night and first noticed our stark shadows from the Moonshine being cast on the barn door. In the binocs, it looked spherical, you could actually sense that it was a ball. A buddy texted me that "you can almost reach out and touch it. Since it is officially full sometime this morning, tonight will be just as cool. Here's to clear skies.

It comforting, my Moon will always be there.

When I took the trash up to the road (and touched base with the neighbor doing the same) I was too early to see the Moonrise. Did too many chores in the garage and in the house, by the time I went out to see, it was up fairly high in the sky. But me and the dog went ahead and walked up the drive to get a good view. I found the first spot to see it clearly around the trees. I looked through the binocs, within 10 seconds an airliner flew across the face of the Moon. Just like those cool pics on APOD. The timing of me going out, where I stood, and deciding to put up the binocs was amazing. Made the sortie worthwhile. Even the dog was impressed.

I gazed at it as I drove into work yesterday morning. Awesome. When I still had my 4 inch refractor, I loved to explore the moon's features.

Raining hard in Amsterdam, no super moon for me.

It was closer than usual last month though and I saw it then, so I suppose that will have to do for now.

After a really nice snow yesterday that left every tree, every branch, every bush completely blanketed in beautiful white, the clouds cleared away. The steely Moon cast an eerie blue glow over everything early this morning. It was lovely.

Ditto here. It was practically bright as day until the Moon set! If it weren't subzero I would have poked out my door and taken a picture.

I took some snow pictures for the girls before it got dark. Then it never really got dark!
