The Pi family cat

Last night we adopted a cat. Her name (for now) is Nala. She's a sweet, tiny 2 year old.
The last cat I had was my Millie, who died 3 years ago after having her for 14 years. She was the absolute sweetest cat I've ever lived with, so I never thought I would find a pet as wonderful as her. Well, as we all know, there is no such thing as a replacement. But Nala seems to be a perfect fit for our family. Playful, snuggly, sweet. It's been less than 24 hours so I am sure we'll learn about some neuroses...but as long as she uses the litter box, I can handle anything else!

Nala is the name she came with from the Humane Society. I wasn't the biggest fan of it--being from The Lion King it's probably common for cats, and I like to be more original with my names. (There was a 2nd Nala at the Humane Society at the time!)

But it's growing on me. And the kids love it because they are familiar with the movie. Besides, I didn't rename Millie when I adopted her. So she will probably stay Nala.

Boy, let me tell you. When you have to work from home on what's supposed to be vacation, it's not so bad having a snuggly kitty with you!

My last cat enjoyed sitting atop the headboard, in the morning, doing an impersonation of Snoopy doing an impersonation of a vulture. When opening the eyelids first thing, I was just hoping it wouldn't pounce. All it usually wanted was to get fed or let outside.

She's sweet--but aggressively so, so far. When she wants attention, she'll jump up and purr, rub, and lick. She doesn't do much lap time. I think it's because she's still getting used to our house. We keep her in the laundry room when we are gone and overnight, so when she's up she wants to explore! But she's great with the kids, and they are great with her. It's only been two weeks, but it's like she's always been a part of our family!

I tried doing a voice over but decided that hearing me actually say it would be more horrifying.
