Cat Alarm

Postby geonuc » Tue Aug 16, 2016 9:19 pm

My wife has her computer and studio downstairs so she spends a lot of her day there (benefits of being a tenured professor - she can work from home a lot). The studio has a locked and alarmed door to the screened porch. The screened porch is where the boy cat likes to hang all day. And by all day, I of course mean all day in and out. He's a cat, so he demands to come in or out whenever he wants. My wife has mentioned this before, how she's his personal door minder.

A few weeks ago we had some work done on the alarm system and after the guy left he apparently changed the programming so it sounds three quick beeps whenever one of the portals is opened or closed. It didn't do that before. So now I also have the pleasure of experiencing the boy cat's behavior.

Beep beep beep - pause - beep beep beep. Cat going out.

Twenty minutes later ...

Beep beep beep - pause - beep beep beep. Cat coming in.

Not a long time passes ...

Beep beep beep - pause - beep beep beep. Cat going out.

And so on. This can go on several iterations before my wife starts yelling at him to make up his fucking mind. This doesn't happen every day. Some days he will lounge in a corner of the porch observing his backyard kingdom all day (a kingdom he's not allowed to enter). When he does come in, he's a bit toasty what with the hot weather.

I didn't realize our cats were related.

I think all cats are related, and interconnected. Like some giant cat Borg.

Resistance is futile.

How about those cold mornings where the cat stands in the open doorway, making up it's mind if it really does want to go outside?

Isn't the broom handle supposed to help with that decision process? :P

Or your foot. A nudge to kitty's rear end will encourage the decision-making process.

Has anyone here heard of "cat scratch fever"? Hello! <pretend you heard Lily Tomlin saying this as Ernistine The Telephone Operator>

Yeah, cat scratch fever is a thing. I frequently sustain wounds from my two cats and always immediately wash out the cut with water and then douse with peroxide.
