it's that time of year

OK... no matter what you believe... discuss it here. All beliefs, faiths and religions (and non-religions) allowed. Discuss the meaning of life, death and everything in between... just remember... not everyone believes the way that you do...

You have certainly not offended me, cm.

*hugs*

I'll be starting down to New York in less than an hour, to visit my grandma for Rosh Hashanah. I will remember to give her a hug, too.

It seems like it was not a year ago that we had this same conversation. Yikes!! CM you have never offended me. Not in word or deed. But, I find this annual remembrance strangely comforting. It's a nice way to show both humility and to remind me that I too need to seek forgiveness for my offences.

And this time I finally had to look into this Rosh Hashahah tradition.

I am not sure if this article is orthodox or reformed. But, it did sound very expert(ish). :)

I got a similar feeling, couldn't put it into words. Nicely done.

CM, you are probably the ONLY person that has not offended me this past year. :P I will celebrate by not getting to work out in my gym today. :P

Nothing on my end either.

Btw, nice to be back in Pittsburgh, with its giant Jewish community, this time of year. Lots of ads at the bakeries for challah, at the bagel place for a platter, kosher certified this and that, and busy synagogues. It's interesting to me because I grew up with this community around me but never noticed it then, and now that I no longer have it I realized I missed its rhythm.

please, if I have offended any of you and we have not settled matters, let me know. I want to set things right. it is so easy to give offence when one has only words and no tone of voice or facial expression to convey meaning.

thanks.

cm, you are about the least offense person I know. L'Shana Tova (Happy New Year). May your new year be sweet as honey.

once again I come before you to ask if I have, in any way, offended any of you. it is easy to do so when writing as we do not have tone of voice or facial expression to judge intent by. please, if so, let me know as I assure you that it was not my intent and I want to make amends.

I know that for the past year I have not been as active in this group as I would wish to be. I went into a bit of a slump last year when I realized that it would be 5 yrs since Elliot had died. yes, the other jahrrzeits have hit hard but there's something magical about multiples of 5. well, we think in 10s and 5 is half that. this yr it will be 5 for Michael but I will try to do better. I know that he'd want me to.

so please, give me the chance to apologize.

and I will end by making some requests. (I know, i'm pushy that way. but I mean well.) tell the people who've brightened your lives - in any way - that they have. if you're on hugging terms with anyone, give him/her a hug. tell the people that you love that you do. you get the idea. know how lucky you are to have such people in your lives.

the next time you feel yourself starting to be enraged take a deep breath and ask if you really want to bring fury into your life. (take another breath if the answer's yes.) if it's something minor, let it go(say to yourself that it's just person x being person x) or have a rational discussion about it. if it's something major, come up with constructive action.

another year has gone by and once again I come before you to ask if I've wronged anyone and not made amends. please let me know. I know that I've been more absent from this group than present. another bad year. I will try harder.

thank you for the link, fisher. i'd say more orthodox than anything else. maybe even Hasidic.

You came all the way back East and we broke bread. And you sent a nice note to my Mom that I will never forget. I think what you're doing it pretty clearly the opposite of wrong.
