“That is not the position of the House Democratic caucus,” [Pelosi] said on MSNBC. “I don’t think we should make a big deal of it.”
WHY THE HELL NOT
How many laws has he broken already? How many laws HASN'T he?
Because Pelosi knows two things that nothing on earth can change right now. 1. She needs an overwhelming majority in the Senate to make impeachment worth anyone's time and energy. And she does not have that. If the House impeaches and the Senate refuses to try the bastard the impeachment articles go nowhere and look like liberal grandstanding. And the GOP will have a solid argument that it was only done for political motivations. 2. She is reasonably sure that she can't indict a sitting president no matter how many laws he has broken. Yes, they have had a couple of legal scholars argue that this is not 100% written into the Constitution. But, the Justice Department would have to be the ones who prefer an indictment and try to move forward with a trial while the man is in office. And the Justice Department has more or less stated that they believe you CANNOT indict or try a sitting president. Now, if the Justice Department is as suborned and/or castrated as a lot of people think they are you can bet a dozen donuts that the Justice Department is not going to even try to move on an indictment. So, that's also a non-starter.
There are only a limited number of scenarios that she can pursue that actually have the potential to work. Since she is not currently advocating for the overthrow of Trump and Pence and giving herself the throne that leaves rolling up her sleeves and convincing this country that the Democrats are willing to do the work they need to do. And to convince 63 million voters that burning the fucking house down in 2020 is a totally stupid idea.
And it doesn't help things that this impeachment thing seems to wind up the Trump base as much as the wall thing does.
