I hear you. I'm not particularly loyal to the US either. At present (and in the past), it's a fine place to live but if it turns to the dark side, I'd leave if I had a good opportunity.

Looks like it won't turn to the dark side without a fight though.

It said something about "this site is associated with malware/spyware."
Whatever. Glad you're getting some services back. That seems like a good sign that you're not circling the bowl... Yet. ;)

Hopefully your NetNanny at work won't consider the UK's Guardian a threat

Yeah. Again, despite it all, I consider myself lucky. There is a guy at work whose house still doesn't have any basic services back.

It may be a "false" hit. The fun with net nannies is that they often catch dolphins while trying to screen out the sharks. And since it is work you probably don't want to report it to the nanny police in case they get snoopy about your browsing habits. ;)

I strongly suspect that Thumper's NetNanny at work won't let him use TOR

Not surprising :) if fhey allowed stuff like Tor through NetNannys would not serve their purpose.

I saw a news report yesterday. Brazil and the U.S. are cozying up to each other. A reporter asked the Brazilian president if he and Trump had discussed basing U.S. troops in Brazil to help aid reach Venezuela. There was some rather vague statements from both Trump and Bolsonaro. "All options are on the table" , mutter, mutter...

There was also mention of Brazil becoming an associate of NATO.

Bolsanaro certainly appears to have his nose up Trump's @ss. But I thought Trump hated NATO?

Meh. A month ago, Brazil made it clear that it would not host US troops. I don't think Bolsanaro will be able to turn on a dime on that. As for Brazil becoming an associate of NATO. Apparently it's not that easy. And remember: Trump, to put it mildly, over-promises and under- delivers. And that's when he's not talking out of his ass. Bolsonaro keeps his nose up Trump's butt at his own risk.

The BBC agrees with me. So, my confirmation bias has been tickled for the day :P

Only if he can't milk them for personal profit.

It seems Mr Bolsonaro is the Trump of Brazil. So...how many Russians did it take for him to win his election? :P

Naw, he won cause the commies before him screwed the pooch with the economy. And the traditional right wing parties are seen as corrupt as well. He presented himself as the "problem solver" that would "shake up things" (yeah, just like Trump and Chavez, and just as crude as them too :P ).
