Game of Thrones

FWIS might be the sole remaining place on the internet that doesn't have a GoT thread. Not anymore.

So, last season. I re-subscribed to HBO so I could watch it more or less as the episodes are aired. Avoiding GoT spoilers is quite difficult given the show's enormous popularity and internet presence.

I'm rooting for the two 'good' dragons to lay waste to the Seven Kingdoms.

I've always been rooting for the Khaleesi. I look forward to seeing the conflict between her and Jon when she learns the truth. I don't think both Targaryens can survive. It would be a nice wrapped up ending for a king and queen to rule. But that's too happy for this show.

I fear that Cersei will end up the victor, both her brothers dead, and no baby on the way. A sad, lonely ruler on the throne. The kingdom worse off than when the show began.

My prediction of the arc of the 6 episode series, somewhat based on what I've heard will happen: They will destroy the Night King ine 3rd episode battle and spend the last 3 episodes fighting amongst themselves. With a lot of unexpected plot twists, I hope.

But I like the dragon idea too. They would have to find some nice lady dragons so they can populate and flourish in Westeros.

Certainly, how things play out once Daenerys learns of Jon's true heritage is a major plot point. There are so many others, too. With only five episodes left, they'll have to start resolving stuff at a rapid pace.

I'm kinda weird in that I never actively watched the show. Instead I read all the books pretty much at once, and then would check in as the seasons progressed if a friend hosted a viewing party (of which I've attended two or three iterations over the years, this show's been on forever). My philosophy is there's too many TV shows to get into, but I like to socialize, so hey.

Went to one such party on Sunday night (bf is into it and made me watch a few from last season to prep for it), and we took a Game of Thrones bottle of wine we found in the liquor store- good job guys, we did indeed part with money for the branding! :P My impression of the episode was not much happened beyond a lot of pithy lines the writers had clearly been saving for years until X and Y characters met again, but pretty sure the fans were happy, so whatever. And guess I'll be watching until the end from now on out.

Also, my prediction is Jon gets the Iron Throne, and Dany ends up sacrificing herself somehow, likely in connection with the dragons. She is de facto superfluous now, as she's no longer the heir, so yeah. I do like to joke though that their relationship can continue because incest doesn't seem to be a problem in their family or for characters in the show in general. ;)

I am also convinced that I'm the only person who dislikes Arya. She was always so stereotypically a character a man would write who is thinking "if I was forced to be in this society I would refuse to conform to being a woman!", and always goes through the series as if she's exclusively the only one who's ever been wronged. Which is pretty immature by this point.

Finally, if you didn't see this over the weekend I thought it was really funny- https://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/jon ... na-results

That's one of the plot points that needs to be cleared up anyway: whether she (Arya) scratches everyone off her kill list.

Hey, if she wants to sacrifice her life in order to finish it off, I'm all for that compromise! Then we both get what we want! ;)

I was thinking about how Arya fits into the final direction of the season, and had completely forgotten about the kill list. What makes most sense is that she is going to kill Cersie. So what will probably end up happening is that Cersie kills her.

The primary person still on Arya's list is Cersie. There are a couple of others but it is highly unlikely they will bother to have her kill them. Although the Mountain is still a possibility. He technically did die. So, does that mean he is off the list? Or now that he is sort of undead does he get back on the list?

And then there's Bran Stark. You have to think he'll be instrumental in confronting the Night King, if in fact he isn't somehow actually the Night King.

Kind of corny last night. [Plot theme spoilers below.]
It's understandable that they had to initiate some closure with all the characters and story lines before the big fight. Some of them are going to die and the audience can't be left wondering how they really feel about each other. As MrPi put it, "another episode when not much happened."
In previous seasons they could go whatever direction they wanted, but this time they have to keep it focused and you can tell they have that constraint.

But damnit, I'm excited for the next episode. And I'm actually scared for them! I was impressed that the episode brought out that emotion in me.

The writing has been a lot poorer since they've had no source material to draw on.

Tyrion, Jaimie, pretty much all the interesting characters with complex emotional depth now come across as one dimensional, corny and stupid. The dialogue is poorer too.

Nevertheless, I still await each episode with baited breath.

Arya still looks like a 12 yr old girl so that shit this week was creepy.

Yea, I did not care for the Arya part. But maybe it will be Arya and the Baratheon bastard on the Iron Throne, and they just made an heir.

Well, at least they got past the 'Jon tells Dany he's the real heir to the Iron throne' part.

No dragons in this past episode. I suppose they too were sequestered in some dark room of Winterfell drinking to past and future glory.

She certainly has the face of a young girl but once she disrobed, not so much. I wonder if this scene was Massie Williams' idea? She has an acting career to look forward to and being typecast as a young girl won't be good for her.

I have a feeling she used a body double. I had read that Cersie's walk of shame was a body double with Lena Headley's head CGI'd on. I was looking closely at Arya's body for the few seconds it was visible and it seemed a bit smooth and edited.

Ok, that sounded bad. I was looking purely from an artistic point of view. :D

But yes, she does seem to have one of those always-youthful faces. Like Ralph Macchio.
