Saving Mr. Banks

Anybody see it? We watched it on Netflix while at our friend's beach house over the weekend. I liked it. Made me want to look up the actual people and see how much it was based on reality.

Hadn't heard of it, which is surprising since it's a Tom Hanks movie.

I saw it back in the day when it was in theaters, and really enjoyed it. But then I'm a complete sucker for movies like that about historic authors (I really liked Miss Potter, for example).

I have seen it. I really enjoyed. From what I could look up the movie really did capture the essence of the bitter struggle between P.L. Travers and Walt Disney. Until the day she died she HATED the movie Peter Pan. Disney really did make a point of not inviting her to the premier of the movie.

Cool, I'm glad there is some decent basis in reality. For whatever reason, I really liked Paul Giamatti's character.

Speaking of author biopics, big Tolkein one coming out next month!

I hope it's good, but at the risk of becoming like my dad, I'm going to read the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes before I decide on whether to watch it.

I always seem to be out of sync with movie critics or review sites. I love stuff the critics hate. Occasionally, I will actually like something the critics like. Typically, my response is "The critics hate it! I have to go see that one!" :P

that doesn't matter. what's important is to have performed calibrations so that one knows whether to run to or from something based on another's suggestion.

True, there used to be a reviewer in a local rag here. The more he hated a movie or a TV show, the more I knew I needed to watch it. :P
