I thought the new Star Wars movie was OK. Does anyone else take SW at face value without picking it apart over minor stuff? It's an epic adventure story where good triumphs over evil despite ridiculously bad odds.

Yes, I do avoid picking it apart. I listened to a review podcast from what are supposed to be superfans, and they way they were nitpicking it you'd think they hated it. I understand their concerns about plot holes, inconsistencies, ignoring previous movies, and unlikely character actions. But I didn't let that bother me. I thoroughly enjoyed all three of the prequels and I am happy with how it ended up.

I go to the movies to enjoy them. I rarely bother to get twitterpated about inconsistencies in plots or other stuff that decreases my enjoyment in the movie. People who do those type of things really need to be put in a red shirt and assigned to CPT Kirk's security detail.

Haven't seen any of them, but the third movie kind of lost me by pandering to several of the more toxic elements of the fan base TBH, and just generally having a plot that sounds like bad fanfic. But then I guess I can only expect that of a franchise famous for redeeming a guy who blew up up a whole planet.

(Yes I'm bad at suspending disbelief, I make no apologies ha ha)

Anyway yeah there's a reason I never managed to be a Star Wars fan.

Saw it last night. It was probably my least favorite in awhile and not because I was picking it apart so much as I was thinking it was amazing how a movie with so much action was so boring.

I guess my issue is there was essentially so much running around there was no time for character development, and that's what usually makes you love the Star Wars characters. Like, I kept wondering what the big deal was with Finn telling Rey that he wanted to tell her something, since it was raised twice and usually that means someone's crushing on someone in a movie... but they never explain it, and when I looked it up later, apparently JJ Abrams said at the Golden Globes that Finn wanted to tell Rey that he was force sensitive. Umm, ok, could've worked on that a little better when it's mentioned multiple times.

But yeah I hope that wasn't too nitpicky!

I think your things have more to do with plot development and character development. Unlike the UberFanNazi who believes that every single movie must follow CANON!

When I was a kid, all there was, was Star Wars

These days I tend to favor Star Trek more. I've seen seven of the 9 movies. As for the other two, I'll wait for them to show up on Cable TV

Hah, ok!

I mean, there was definitely an element where by this point I felt like you knew what the Force is "supposed" to do, so they added some new crap in to mix it up (like, if you can just use life force to bring people back from the dead, I'm pretty sure that would have been useful in the other movies). But seeing as the Force is all made up in the first place, no need to get all obsessed about that over the actual plot and stuff when there's plenty to complain about there.

Saw it last week. I liked it. It was quite loud. My ears were ringing when we left. Mrs.T called it overwhelming.
