Bennita Arndt just got made a Member of the Order of Australia, for "contributions to gender equity". She's... basically a modern day Phyllis Schlafly, who has worked with MRAs and once did a sympathetic interview of a convicted pedo.

I mean, have you seen the reactions of the politicians in Australia to the country burning down last month?

I learned a long time ago that Australia is basically the southern hemisphere version of the US in many ways, and that includes politics. Interestingly, New Zealand is very much the Canada in this relationship (they are quite liberal, have pretty nature, and even say "eh?" at the end of sentences).

I didn't know AU was similar to US politically TBH - I'd been under the impression it was more like Canada, i.e. racist as hell but actually believing in institutions and support structures. But I guess I was wrong about that.
