Hello from rainy Baltimore!

Been up to the 60's again, then snow flurries, rain, sleet and 30's. Down to the teens tomorrow. We had just enough snow last week that I looped it making a right onto a county road. Apparently, even if you have an AWD Subaru, you need decent tire tread as well. New tires coming in a couple weeks. I had hoped to make it until summer. I suppose I could pull out the truck every time it snows, but that seems silly.

In a couple weeks, I'll let you know what the weather is like near Cancun.

My brother is there this week! (His wife's birthday so quite the celebration.) It appears sunny and warmer than here.

F and I are heading down to New Orleans for this coming long weekend. I am really excited because I've never been before, and let's be honest there are a dwindling number of those at a weekend trip distance for me. Should be warmer than here for sure (even if we are still in this perpetual "40s by day so rain instead of snow" cycle).

You'd be surprised! On the way back we connect in Nashville, and that will be my first time ever in Tennessee.

But yeah, if you're interested, recently I did a map where I traced out all the routes I've done in North America- link. I think the only two places you can't really tell I've been because I flew in are Austin and Atlanta. I was also kind of surprised when I made it because I lived in Ohio for how many years, but it's so unexplored- then I remembered I only had a car for like a year there. Still seems dumb I never went down to that cool air and space museum in Dayton though for one.

Yeah, we went down once in the physics and astronomy club to use the biggest telescope in Ohio located there. Not sure if you've been but well worth checking out!

Came up to New Hampshire yesterday and it was sunny and in the 40s, so really felt like spring was around the corner. Woke up this morning and there's a half inch of snow on the ground! I guess winter lasts a longer time up north.

The one silver lining I found in coming up for an unexpected few weeks (because while I do like NH, this entire time just feels so uncertain) is we are just getting into "ice out." Big deal on northern lakes and tracked every year, it used to be in April but is now happening more in late March with this year as no exception. There is definitely still a thin layer all over, but I think it won't last a week... never seen it before, but it's supposed to be cool.

We got two to three days of mild rain. We will take anything we can get.

We had a bright weekend here for our nice solitary walking, and even geocaching because there are some really remote trails here (and all caches that haven't been found this year yet, so don't worry). Tonight though they say we are getting 4-7" of snow! So, this will be a spring slow to start.

So I dunno how spring is progressing where you guys are, but I'm forever amazed about how others are posting pictures of their daffodils and talking about how nice it is to sit outside sometimes. Meanwhile I'm feeling like the first signs of spring are barely showing up, in that "got to the 50s but still snowed in the mountains and there's piles of the stuff still melting" kind of spring.

Meanwhile I'm feeling like the first signs of spring are barely showing up, in that "got to the 50s but still snowed in the mountains and there's piles of the stuff still melting" kind of spring.

We still have some snow piles in parts of our neighborhood, and we got traces of snow a couple times this past week. The grass is a bit greener than a week ago thanks to the sun and a bit of rain. But no, nothing springy is peeking out yet.

Freezing morning temperatures here in Central Oregon, and some very light snow yesterday. I think folks are ready to get their gardens started - I see lots of prep work being done in the neighborhood - but I think it will be a couple of months yet before plants can go in the ground.

Planting? No, it's too soon. I took a gardening class a couple of months ago at the local community college. Kale - which I would totally grow - shouldn't go in the ground here until May, and we seem to be experiencing a cold spring, so that might be later.

Rained all day today, and woke up to find the ice was gone on the lake! I mean, we had some melting off the edges, but the majority of the lake was covered, and in the night the rain and wind swept it all away. (We saw a few bits remaining this morning go by, so figured out how it works.)

Crazy how quickly it all goes once it decides to.

It's not a MN April without some snow....just a trace today. Last year we had a major storm mid month, so I know it's not all behind us!

We had hail and 75 degree temps last week, sleet and 30 degree temps this week, snow and 40 degree temps predicted next week. It has snowed every April in Ohio since 1976 except 2.

Snowed here yesterday, enough to leave a thin layer on the porch type levels of snow, and more flurries today. It takes a little while for winter to let up in New England!

The funny thing is there is a snow pile at the end of the road from when the driveway got plowed this winter, in a shady spot, and F and I have a bet on when when it's gonna melt- he says Easter or before, and I say after. I'm so gonna win!

Does anyone else feel even more annoyed these days when it rains? Like, it's spring, so it's not at all unusual that we have a few "rain all day" kind of days. But man it does piss me off now, because before you could at least go out shopping or to the movies when it rained, and now you're just... stuck inside without even the daily walk.

It's funny because F has off today for Easter Monday (standard in Europe), and asked me if I'd take a long weekend too, which I was tempted to do because originally this week was supposed to be a holiday one for me (well, plus PhD defense on Thursday, but it was going to be mainly holiday). So I was definitely tempted yesterday... until I saw the weather forecast was for rain all day today. Yeah, screw that, I might as well try to get some work done and save a day off for a nice day in the next week or two.

Yes, but for a different reason. Most April days it's cold enough when it rains, that if it were just a few degrees colder it would snow. Then at least you can get outside without getting soaked, and you might be able to get out and play! Like yesterday. We got about 5" and made some pokesnowmonsters (Snowkemon?). Pictures to come.
