BMR Lite

Had a crappy day? Think your only friend is the dog? Got fired? Someone piss in your Wheaties? Just need to blow off some steam and rant? Here's the place to do it. No judgement, maybe some sympathy, possibly some advice... but definitely a safe place to go off on the world.

Thank you. Brian had some tough times. He's at peace now, and not in pain anymore. I can't say the same for his Dad, his brothers, or his girlfriend.

Well, that's sad news. 38 is way too young. I hope the living can find peace and solace.

Moan:

So, I golf. I like it; it gets me out among trees and rocks even if the scenery is a bit manicured. And I like the cerebral nature of the game. Last year, I had a bad wrist injury that shortened my golf season considerably. Then, it's winter (again). This year, I've been nursing a very persistent groin injury, so no golf (or hiking). It seemed to get healed enough to play, so I hit the links yesterday. First goddam swing (and I am not a hard swinger of the golf club), my right arm complains. I recognize the pain as golfer's elbow. Goddamit!

I play the rest of the round by leaving the driver in the bag on a lot of holes and swinging even lighter than usual. I'm more careful with technique, as well, but as I'm super rusty, that's easier said than done. The pain didn't persist but it's something I know I will have to be careful with.

Maybe I need to go to the gym. The horror.

the gym.

many years ago my group had a secretary who was a total gym rat. he told me that he just didn't feel right if he didn't get to the gym every day. I never understood this until i started going to water aerobics. the endorphin rush when the leader said that class was over was incredible! and i thought that i understood what he meant. but then the last month i was working a mean of 81 hrs/week so no pool and no Zumba. and i miss them!

Ha ha. Did you happen to see last week's "Saturday Night Live From Home"? Kate McKinnon played Ruth Bader Ginsberg doing a podcast from home. She showed some of her modified workout where she was curling Q-tips and pressing AA batteries. :P

We did watch it! I came to the conclusion that SNL really needs a laugh track to be successful. :P

My favorite of the "at home" stuff is John Oliver, probably because him sitting at home is frankly not that much different than what his normal shows are like.

We've actually been tuning in to SNL for the past 6 months or so, if we happen to be in bed and not otherwise occupied in the 10:30-11:30 hour (I live central time!) Somewhat off topic: I've loved SNL since I was about 10, but MrPi has been the one turning it on which totally surprises me because he has no appreciation for pop culture. Anywhoo, we turned it on during Pete Davidson's video of the Drake song. I don't care for either of them, and it had no appeal to me, so I just turned it off. I did check what the rest of the sketches were later, and watched the Zoom teleconference. It was great! I may go back and watch some more. I'm glad they are doing this, and I hope they keep it up.

It sounds pretty funny. Unfortunately, I am usually in bed by the time SNL comes on.

It's on Hulu!

Fun fact- in our NH seclusion we actually have Internet, but no cable, and the closest stations are in Portland, ME so won't get them on the antenna we have. So YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, and AppleTV with HBO for us! The reason I mention this is I told my sister and she was horrified that we could get through all this without the news and normal TV. I feel like I get too much news to distract me as is.

The streaming options are pretty amazing. As long as you have internet you almost don't need regular TV. There is still the disconnect with local programming but even that is becoming less of a problem as a lot of local broadcasters have some sort of online presence.

Rommie

you reminded me of the reason I finally gave in and started buying the local cable company some years back. We moved to a small town close to the small city I worked in. Benton City Washington had a population of 1500 at the time. The town sat in a valley surrounded by very tall hills. The only way I could receive a signal was if I ran an antenna up to the top of one of the peaks and then strung antenna wire for about 5 miles. This was just at the dawn of the internet age and we were still using dial modems to connect. The local cable company was the only option in town. And they knew it.

Hah! Yeah that's a similar reason probably to why cable is so expensive up here. No competitor either. It just honestly doesn't make sense to spend so much, and frankly if we missed it we could always get YouTube TV for channels.

The one that annoys me in Boston is we got cable so we could watch stuff like Formula 1, which F follows religiously, and the rate seemed about right if he would pay per view. But then they tack on a monthly local sports fee anyway to what it costs! I am sure we won't be paying for cable again next year.

Ugh. Sometimes I hate being in management. 3/4 of my time is spent in meetings, 1/8 is spent scheduling meetings, 1/16 of the day is spent bitching about being in management (like now) so I get about 1/16 of the day to actually accomplish anything. That adds up, right?

Even worse. You are probably middle management and secretly believe that everyone hates you. Even other middle managers are not your friends. And what really sucks is your secret fear that everyone hates you is true.

You know what is going to annoy me more before it annoys me less? All the groups and people I know right now releasing BLM statements when I know they don't actually care.

Like, the Dutch astronomers association released a message. That's cool, does that mean your members are no longer going to argue every year that blackface is acceptable?
