Auld Lang Syne

Postby SciFiFisher » Fri Mar 11, 2022 4:17 pm

This time 11 years ago a happy event and a sad event collided. I am reminded of this because once again Facebook is reminding me that it is Russ's birthday. He passed in April 11 years ago. I still miss him. Which feels odd sometimes because I never had the chance to spend a lot of time with him. A FWIS Fry and a wedding were our two main in person F2F events. But, we corresponded for several years here on FWIS. Raise your glasses to Russ and salute his birth. The world is a slightly better place for having known him. Old Lang Syne

Wow, I can't believe it's been 11 years. It really was a shock, and I still certainly think of him.

But it sure beats the alternative.

Russ would love your humor. 8-)
I was very lucky to get to spend time with him close to a dozen times just because of our proximity. I too think of him very often. He even came up to witness a TKD promotional exam The Kid and I participated in. We had a big lunch afterward and he secretly paid the tab. Then we invited him to the house to visit for a bit before he headed home. My life is better for our time together, my heart is emptier now that he is gone.

Thanks for this thread.

I've been thinking about Russ recently. And I still miss him. Of all my memories of him, I just thought about the time he gave me a 6er of St Pauli Girl. Unfortunately, I was down in Cincy with my state vehicle. I remember hiding it down in the footwell of the backseat covered up in my jacket. If anyone would have found out about it, it would have been a firing offence.
Miss you, My Friend.

Risking your job for some St Pauli Girl beer of all things is pretty funny. I mean, you'd never be able to live that down if you'd been caught! roll:

I find it incredible that it's been so many years already. Can't believe it.
