Water Softener

Had a crappy day? Think your only friend is the dog? Got fired? Someone piss in your Wheaties? Just need to blow off some steam and rant? Here's the place to do it. No judgement, maybe some sympathy, possibly some advice... but definitely a safe place to go off on the world.

Water Softener

Moving a bit out in the country a while back, it was our first experience with a well and water softener system. I slowly learned how things worked and kept things going until things needed replaced. I got talked into this Cadillac system from Hague Water that was supposed to be the be all end all. It cost way too much. Then it needed an expensive service call about every other year for leakage and other issues. I got frustrated then got hooked up with a nice young tech that explained to me what was happening and why. The solution? Spend a bunch more money for a bunch new filtering equipment to the excitement of Mrs. T. Now twice in the last month, I'm still having an issue. The brine tank overfills. (For those unfamiliar with softener systems, it doesn't matter. Just know that your basement starts to flood with salty water.)

I texted my tech last night about it. And he ended up showing up here this morning and tried to sleuth things out. Not sure if we have it solved but at least we have a couple theories. And I really appreciate having Austin on speed dial to council me or even sneak over when things go south, and no $200 service calls every time someone comes down the drive.

But after $10,000, I'm getting really tired of shop vaccing salty water out of my basement.

And I just checked it after it went through its cycle...It just about overflowed the tank again.

That sounds ridiculously expensive for shitty water.

A sentiment I tried to covey to my friendly tech. I can get shitty water for free anywhere. Although I do not have a water or sewage bill, I'm making payments on my softener equipment, I have to routinely buy salt, I have to buy new aerator pumps occasionally, and I have to pay a guy to come pump out our tank regularly...

I can name a couple of cheaper companies that don’t have those issues.

Yeah, I can too and have mentioned a few names to my Hague representatives. Then I say I'm neck deep into you guys, I mean $10,000 in. Can we make this work right?
